Is it normal for an apartment (one of those 2-story ones) to not be perfectly flat?

I received a desk and chair from my employer… the chair has a tendency to kinda roll in one direction.

My windows don’t do that anymore, but I used to live in a house in the country that had a hole in the floor from where a large air con pipe (like on those portable ones) had been pushed through the floorboards, and 4cm gaps under all the doors. Being a 6 year old in a house that whistled was fucking terrifying, especially when my mum had the bright idea to go and tell me ghost stories

Also we had an illegal fireplace with an illegally blocked off chimney (nobody told us!) and our roof caught on fire, so after that there was no more warmth

I have a big hole in my floor from an old ducted heating pipe, but I have shoved a doormat and set of drawers on top of it so it does not whistle. I probably get a bit of air leak through all the old vents though. The worst wind incursions are through the laundry, which has a big gap under the door and around the pipe under the sink. Every time there is a big gust of wind the metal sink cupboard door rattles loudly. It used to have a dodgy sliding door to the room that would rattle too, but that broke a few years ago and I’ve replaced it with an insulated curtain that works well to keep the cold/hot out and definitely does not rattle.

I do have a completely blocked off chimney, but unless the possums who live in there start a fire there should not be a fire risk.

My biggest stress with this sort of weather is water leaks and the fear of a sheet of iron coming off the roof, as I’ve had issues with both of those things in the past. Every time I hear something rattle or drip I’m trying to work out if I have water coming inside - the idea of rain on the roof being a soothing sound is something I have not had in a long time. Maybe one day I will live in a house with a trustworthy roof and be able to experience that again.

I saw a video yesterday where a building inspector put a level on the ground in a new build and it wasn’t level. Also had water leaks and the like.

I wish more building inspectors actually inspected. All I’ve seen from most of them is they take a quick squizzy at the front door, and as long as it closes, all good!

I got the dirt on my new client.

Very high maintenance and will argue down to the hour for project work.

Everyone I mentioned it to yesterday gave me this look and laughed lol. And word travelled really quickly around the office.

I’m going to have to have a word with the MIL about taking the kids out during the day.

The point is to get them to sleep. One only slept when they got back, and the other didn’t sleep at all and had a nap from 5-8, meaning I only got the two of them down now.

Not to mention driving all over Melbourne with them and getting toys they don’t need from op shops. I’d be fine with that but they’re always cheap remote control cars without the remote,so they don’t work properly and are full of tiny parts if they ever break

Any suggestions for an easy option for “German food” that I could take as a plate for a morning tea at work? I’d like to make Bienenstitch but I don’t know if I’ll have time so want a backup option.

New corporate buzzword I absolutely despise - Journey

    It’s not a fucking journey. It’s a process.

Stop trying to make boring shit appeal interesting. It’s boring, but that’s a how it is. Changing the label doesn’t make it exciting.

I looked at having a small 100g roll of tape from a Japanese video game company I really liked forwarded from Japan once. Fucking 40 bucks for shipping. The tape itself is only the equivalent of 6 bucks. I asked why, and apparently it’s because FedEx have a large minimum shipment size and weight or something. They refused to use Japan Post, which would’ve been like a 40th of the price.

Also paid 15 bucks in postage to get more melatonin from the states. Not that bad, relative, but the entire package, including box, is less than 100g.

I did this exact same check tonight and same opinion. The timezone isn’t great for seeing any of the bigger events live. Not going to be like Tokyo.

There’s a good chance of them replaying the ceremony as they’ve done that in the past if memory serves me right.

You might even be able to replay it on the 9 website as well.

Knocked the coffee on my desk over while on a work call, said “shit” very low as the other person was speaking but don’t think they heard me. Had to frantically clean the spill up while talking as coffee was dripping onto my carpet. A fair amount went onto the carpet… I’ve got this carpet stain remover that I’ve never used before, hopefully it does the trick.

I’ve been lucky - I’ve worked from this carpeted room for years and the worse floor spill has been water.

    MWave rant part 4040209294930182748919183

MWave just sent me an email to say that my order has been delayed and they don’t know when they’re going to send it out. But in any case, we’ve passed the next day cutoff now, so I won’t be getting it this week.

I found another 12gb rtx 3060 (same graphics card but different brand) for 15 bucks cheaper at centrecom. I really want to go get a refund and just go pick up the other one myself from centrecom which is only a short drive away. I’d end up saving even more, because I wouldn’t need to pay for transit insurance or delivery fees. But I get the vibe MWave are the type to hold onto every cent for as long as possible, so I imagine I probably wouldn’t receive it for a month. I’m getting annoyed, because I’m sure that when I ordered it, it said it was in stock in their warehouse, and then after I ordered it they changed it to say it was in stock at their supplier. And evidently paying for express post from MWave doesn’t make them pay for express post from their supplier.

Maybe I need to learn some patience, but they just haven’t been very transparent in the whole process, and they charged me every type of fee they possibly could. Bank surcharge, card surcharge, shipping, postal insurance. I spent what’s (for me) a lot of money. I’m actually pretty sure it’s the most money I’ve personally spent in a single transaction ever. It’s actually getting to the point where there’s a little seed of doubt sown in my mind, and I’m wondering if they ever will post it, or if maybe I’ve gone and bought my graphics card from a fake MWave.

E: I realise I’ve been complaining about MWave a lot. I’ll stop. Unless something’s wrong with my order when it arrives again, I won’t complain about them anymore. Also moved this one into a spoiler
