beautiful day out there, those rays are going to do a world of good 🌞
I’m surprised by the sun. It’s nice when it comes out.
Makes me feels slightly brighter and happier.
I fell asleep to this and it was perfect:
I fell asleep to this the other day by accident:
Naawwwwww
I was wondering if there was a function for threads to be bumped back up to the top when posted in? Just so it’s easy to see active threads, there isn’t a lot of duplicates, and similar stuff is more easily consolidated into one thread. (ie. Cheap eats)
No worries if not - I don’t know how much work implementing that would be or if there’s even the option on Lemmy.
I’m not sure if it is. Activity will bump threads when the person looking is sorting by active, but I don’t think there’s a way to bump them otherwise.
That’s good, maybe not as easy to encourage other people to add to the threads but it’s good for when you want to find active threads yourself
I’ve been thinking about how Coles has introduced an egg buying limit due to bird flu and what it’s doing to cattle in the states.
We’ll probably end up with vegan diets, not because it’s the right thing to do, but because we completely destroy animal products through factory farming
Yeah. I’m not vegan (because my body can’t tolerate a lot of the staple foods you need to stay healthy on a vego diet). But factory farming is cruel, excessive and leads to high density environments that mean serious problems with containing outbreaks and zoonosis. I’d rather things dial down a little and people eat less meat than whatever the hell this is.
home now, it’s getting cold, sat down with some hot coffee and those nice strawberry wafers . oh noes, I accidentally picked up the peanut flavoured ones 😵
Coffee so late? Isn’t that going to make it hard to sleep?
Bummer about the wafers :(
half a cup and weak
reminds me, I better take some nurofen while i have that little bit of caffeine in me
Pretty therapeutic cleaning out my carport after 3.5 years 😬 binned a whole lot of old crap from my old work car, swept up a huge pile of leaves, dust and debris, removed the years of neglect. Now it’s unrecognisably clean and tidy! So much less depressing to look at! I’m sure my neighbours will be happy too.
Aint much for a Saturday but I definitely feel like I’ve earned the right to chill for the rest of the day. Not gonna push myself too hard this weekend…
You’ve achieved something you wanted to get done, don’t belittle that! Enjoy your chill afternoon 😊
Today was good. Lots of great food and family time. Talked to my cousin’s daughter, a 4yo middle child, about Pokemon and I think she really likes me now :D
Got my birthday presents, one of which is a book called ‘Mickey’ and it’s about a cat, so I’m stoked.
10/10 day, would do again lol
but first, a cuppa.
I’m looking at a watch and think yeah I’d love to buy it. But then I tell myself why? You use your phone for the time, and as far as a decorative piece goes you rarely leave the house and when you do it’s only for a few people that wouldn’t care about stuff like that. And also you already have a watch.
So I successfully talked myself out of it.
Time is meaningless; watches doubly so.
I’ve gone back to wearing a watch when out, it’s just more convenient to look at my watch than dragging my phone out of my bag.
If you end up talking yourself back into getting a watch, I would highly recommend a semi smart watch like a basic Garmin. Notifications and quick replies without getting your phone out of your pocket are a game changer. Plus all the stats, which are cool …
I do use the shit out of my Apple Watch. I’ve got 2 analogue watches that I love but honestly hardly wear.
Are you telling me I should buy it? 😜
Is it an Apple Watch? Cause if so yes. It’s invaluable to me these days.
I’ve got an apple watch, since i don’t use apps i never wore it. It’s prolly out of date now.
What does everyone carry while out and about on a normal day?
For me, the standard keys, phone, wallet… and a 20k power bank, charging cables, tissues, mints, and a couple of items for my wife.
Nicotine, valium, vicodin, marijuana, ecstasy, and alcohol
(seriously: wallet, water bottle, phone, keys, mints, hand sanitizer and headphones)
Haven’t seen you in a while, nice to see you on Lemmy. -waves-
Hello! I don’t post as much here but rest assured I lurk here daily :)
cards, phone, keys, water, juice box, compass, whistle, a few coins, twist ties, bulldog clips, power bank, cable, pills, mint, plushie, hand sanitiser, toothbrush, toothpaste, tissues, plastic bag, shopping bag, pens, book, headphones, watch, laminated cat photo
Aww you’re so sweet with the cat photo.
You should probably also carry a bacon snack everywhere you go too.
i can take a bite out of myself
Phone, wallet, nicotine lozenges, couple of tissues
Phone, house key, every receipt I’ve absentmindedly shoved into my bag over the years
Now’s the time to clear it out. 😅
My people (turtles) demand I show reverence to our ancestors, so I carry a backpack everywhere at all times.
Remember, Gibson is also your boss. 🐱
Phone, keys, ear buds, reusable bag.
Haven’t carried a wallet around in years.
Keys, phone, calico bag, mask, meds, lip balm!!!, work pass, purse, powder, loops, emergency sew kit, nail file, chewing gum.
Phone and keys mainly, a Myki card and headphones if I’m using PT. If I’ve got a shoulder bag with me, might have my wallet, gum, tissues, a snack.
Phone, keys and a go-get’em attitude usually
Phone, keys, wallet though I want to carry that less and less these days.
I’m a wallet, phone, keys guy. No bag, and nothing more than my pockets can carry
Toss in AirPods and yep that’s me too.
Depends if I’m travelling light or heavy. Light day out (shops or quick trip) phone, wallet, keys, maybe headphones or earbuds. Heavy (all day outing) phone, 2 powerbanks, charger (cable + brick), panadol, headphones, water bottle, light snack (unless I’m planning on eating out), change of underwear and sometimes shirt
I also keep a go bag in case things go south and I need to bail quickly which contains all of the above + 2 changes of clothes, some cash, a few snacks, and an extra powerbank (so 3 in total)
And I don’t usually carry (but should): jacket, umbrella, and tissues
So many power banks. What’s the capacity of each?
I’ll talk to my wife about doing up a go bag or two together.
I believe they’re all 10,000MaH, but I do something called wardriving/net stumbling a lot (basically making a log of the wifi networks that I see as well as their location) which uses up a lot of battery.
The first powerbank is 6 years old and probably down to about 5,000MaH of degraded capacity, the other is a newer one but doesn’t charge devices super fast. The last one is a flashy one that’s super new and has USB C PD, fast charging, and wireless charging which is my primary one. The other 2 are backups.
Tailor your go bags to your specific situation. I’d do 2. 1 for your immediate needs. If you had to be out for 24 hours without your car, what would you reasonably need? Try to balance things so you only take what you’d need so it’s easy to carry. The other bag I would do essentials to get you by for 3 or 4 days with a car (if you have one). Changes of clothes, tinned food, any meds or toiletries you need, some cash, etc. the first go bag might not be super necessary, I keep mine purely because I often don’t know that my living situation will be safe this time tomorrow. Honestly the 2nd one you probably don’t need either - I just suggest it because I used to live in the country, and with bushfires and such you need to be able to grab your essentials for a few days ASAP if you need them. They’re still a good idea to have in case of major floods, or an earthquake, or other natural disasters, though. But in the cities, the emergency meet points will have most of what you need anyway
Any specific power bank brand you like? I’ve got a big chunky anker that can power my laptop but I want to grab something smaller as a phone backup day to day.
Nice advice about the go-bag too.
My favourite of the 3 I have is the Belkin boost+charge. But it is quite large (2.5cm thick, 14cm long). The older one I have is a Console PBF10NY, but that’s discontinued now. I can’t remember what the other one is and can’t seem to find it at the moment, but I think it’s a cygnett something or rather. Really any powerbank is a powerbank. Next time you’re at an Officeworks, have a look at what they’ve got. Any powerbank that has a USB C port that can be used for charging itself and other devices will probably charge quite quickly (I think this is usually sold as “USB C PD” or “Power Delivery”).
Wouldn’t buy one from eBay or Amazon though, just because of safety and trustworthiness
Cool. Ta.
Phone wallet keys, notebook, pens, water bottle, mask, earbuds, sunnies (I live in hope)
Edit: and a shopping bag that rolls up small
The indian food was good, but they managed to sell me into getting more food than I wanted and I ended up paying 64 bucks 😵💫😵💫. I had leftover curry and rice, so they put it in a takeaway container for me and wrapped it up for leftovers. Since I was planning on being out til about 1, I decided I should stop by home and chuck it in the fridge. But in doing that, I’ve now missed my movie :/
The movie doesn’t start until 8:50, but I’ll be about 40 mins late by PT (gotta love when it’s only 20 minutes longer walking…). Could take a taxi to the station then I’d make it on time, but I’d already need to get one from the station back home, and dinner was so much more than I anticipated I can’t really justify it. I’ll watch a movie on my computer instead, but I was wanting to go to a movie mainly to get out for a few hours.
Oof, I do find most Indian is expensive to eat out for one person as the curries are really expensive if you want to try a couple but then one serve is enough for two people. You don’t get as many set meals or single-dish meals for dinner unlike Chinese or Southeast Asian places. Bring on more South Indian restaurants with thaalis! That’s how Indian curries should be enjoyed imo 😋
Craving veggies… no fancy seasoning, just loads and loads of roast broccoli, maybe carrot, and steamed corn. Want to make something with my scotch bonnet sauce so I’m thinking some kind of jerk fish. Plus herbed rice. That’ll be tomorrow.
I’d scarf down so much broccolini but that shit is so expensive :c
My tongue feels furry.
Thats the sign of a great night!
When mine starts feeling that way I just give it a trim with the kitchen scissors so its back to just stubble
I personally prefer Brazilian tongue

Flying to Melbourne this morning, boy are my arms going to be tired.
Going to see my favourite comedian who was originally not coming to Brisbane… But then all of about 48 hours after we committed to tickets and accommodation in Melbourne announced Brisbane dates too. Funny joke, this is why he’s my favourite comedian.
Jokes on him though - I’m still going to go to Melbourne and get me a parmi, and then I’m going to see him in Brisbane too. Now who’s laughing? 😎
parmi
Triggered
I’m sorry, I don’t speak the local dialect. It’s a, how you say, chicken breast with crumbs? Or as the French say - le parmi. And chips on top. Always on top, or the side. Never under.
You will learn or go hungry. A schnitzel with tomato sauce, ham and grilled cheese on top, chips on the side and an excuse of a salad - this is the glory of a parma.
I hate it when they put it on top of the chips, like wth
I’d go a step further and say like wtaf
Parmi yes. Chips go under though.
The Royal Melbourne disagrees 😎
Last Parma I had was at The Standard in Fitzroy and it sucked. Try the Union Club or The Napier, also in Fitzroy.
a parmi
Get thee to the outer darkness, you heathen. In this town it’s a ‘parma’ and collectively we will all die on this hill.
The real State Of Origin is Parmi versus Parma.
I mean obviously you guys are wrong, but it’s neat to argue about.
Bruh we’re gonna have you arrested on landing by border security
I volunteer to belt his feet with cabanossi. Er Fritz, kabanna, Devon … crud.
People are talking like it’s so cold I’m thinking like I should dress as I did when I lived in Detroit where the weather would be -10C for days and days on end. Warm hat under hood, feather knee long puffer, scarf, double layer gloves, knee high socks and snow boots. Jumper, pants and thermals.
For some reason, I feel that -10°C in Europe was a noticeably more pleasant than anything <10°C anywhere in Australia.
That was based on using very similar set of clothes, and measurement taken outdoors.
On another note, during the daily 6am drives in the recent 2 weeks, I would feel like I’m burning up while my wife is still shivering in the passenger seat while I got the heater on.
