Got home not long ago from my weekend adventure. I’m tired. Here’s a photo from Woolshed Falls from this morning for your viewing pleasure.

I was annoyed at how slow the salt was coming out of the bottle (just a standard cheapy iodised table salt thingy from woolies) the other day and squeezed it and it blew out a huge plume of white dust. It stung my nose a little, I can only imagine Epson salt dust to the eyeball would be fairly painful!

I got them slightly cheaper from Catch.com. You have to buy a few packs at a time with them to get the best price though - which at least means I don’t have to shop for them again for another 6 months or so!

I still hold a grudge against Aldi because of a rude checkout person there when they first opened. They are with OPSM on my “refuse to deal with” list 🤣

Ha, aldi is so cheap (and have food high quality enough) that they could punch me in the face while they’re throwing my knockoff Pringles at me and I’d still go back

I took a nap at about 6 and woke up again around 8, that was a bad nap. I felt (and still feel) worse and more tired after waking up than before. I got the lovely trifecta with extra tiredness, a bad headache, and feeling really really really thirsty after waking up

Apparently the bank processed my dispute and sided with me though, so that’s nice. And as with pretty much every step of the process, they told me it will be returned to my account within 3 days, unless it isn’t, in which case it will be returned in a period of time which is not 3 days

Trying to get some work done to lessen the load for tomorrow but I’m procrastinating. Especially with the sun being out and all.

        Sounds like a good idea.

Are you able to concentrate while having music or something on or is it too distracting?

Maybe a nice cuppa of something on the side as well to make it relaxing.

I’m thinking I put an old laptop to use as a media player before forking out for an old PC to be dedicated to the job. I want to use it as is initially, but Windows is really making me want to just wipe the whole thing and just put Debian on it for this project.

This laptop was my daily driver for a couple of years so I kind of want to keep it as is for a little while if possible, but I could just scrape everything off it and format it if that’s what things come to

I bought an nvidia shield 4k a while ago and it beats my old laptop hands down.

Android box, runs plex and kodi and connects to smb shares.

Decodes 4k mk4 perfectly with Dolby digital.

      Well worth the price.

My old shitty Asus laptop used to be dual partitioned with Ubuntu + windows, because it was my only computer with a webcam, but now that I’ve upgraded, I’m considering wiping it and running some lightweight Linux distribution, and using it just for TubeArchivist and a couple of other docker images.

The old MacBook runs fairly sluggishly these days, but it’s still good for basic schoolwork and I primarily use it for running UNIX based scripts and such, since I still don’t know how to use WSL. Ansible and WM-SPN nainly

I was going to do this with the kids’ laptop until the internet connection became too unstable.

I’d like to learn Docker and even Kubernetes on top of that. Having a computer I’m using for something specific will help with that a lot.

And fuck Microsoft for only allowing remote desktop on enterprise versions of windows. I want to set up a remote connection so I can leave this laptop behind the TV and not need to touch it unless absolutely necessary. Any version of linux would let me do so

MAS has a change windows edition feature, which I believe also lists the enterprise editions. I’m not sure if it works, or if there’s any catches, but I used it to upgrade from normal windows to pro and it worked well

          https://github.com/massgravel/Microsoft-Activation-Scripts

Also has IoT enterprise and education edition

I heard it’s easy to change versions and even get free copies of windows. I ran this other tool I read about that I think edits the DLL files and just turns it on. If that doesn’t workI’ll try this

I saw on Twitter someone mentioned there are browser addons for Chrome/Edge that put historical prices on Coles and Woolworths websites, and I know it’s not super groundbreaking to highlight how specials aren’t really “special”, but it does make for some interesting insights. e.g.

This pasta has been “on special” for 53 days. Isn’t that just the normal price, at this point?

And we’ve all noticed the products that go on special every other week, but seeing it in graph form really makes you wonder what the true price of your laundry detergent is:

They extensions arw called “Coles Trend” and “Woolworths Trend”. I’m not sure how long they will work though before they get blocked/banned/disabled somehow. (Would personally love a version of this for the likes of Chemist Warehouse, it’s always so tricky to figure out whether their discounts/catalogues are real or not.)

I’d been buying a slab of My Dog at Coles for $27 for awhile (full price). I go in there, see a “Special” ticket for $27, have a look underneath and it says $28. You sneaky cunts.

I’ve seen it the other way around at woolworths.

It’ll have a ticket that says “everyday low prices.”

The ticket under it will actually be cheaper by 20-30%.

        Those fuckers!

          SPECIAL $25 save 15c

I don’t know if Woolies do this but on the Coles docket it tells you how much you “save” like Chemist Warehouse does. Patronising pricks. 😠

This came up in the 4 corners episode on supermarket price gouging. There’s no way laundry detergent is worth $20 so half price is just a brief stint at how much it should cost

I’ve thought in the past that they seem to alternate “special” weeks, and also that Woolies and Coles take turns having a thing “on special,” but seeing this in graph form is certainly enlightening.
