Those who don’t identify as a fella also welcome to answer!
I’m getting tired of my wallet and I’m hoping to get some new ideas. Current EDC is my phone, wallet, and keys on a lanyard. Whatchu got?
Edit: I ought to be a little more specific with my EDC, since most people are kindly taking the time to do so.
Phone: Pixel 8 Pro Wallet: bulky leather wallet, I don’t even remember the brand, I’ve had it so long. Keys: a stylized lanyard with various house keys, car key fob, and a keychain that reads “I hope your day is as good as my butt” from my wife. I have to keep that, you understand.
Misc: Burt’s Bees chapstick, Listerine breath strips, and occasionally a utility knife depending on my destination.
Copying my comment from a discussion a while back:
Everything I wear is based around practicality which involves a lot carrying capacity. As someone who’s a lot on the move, this is my usual kit:
Jeans, right pocket: Snus
Jeans, left pocket: Bluetooth earbud charging box thingy
Jeans, right back pocket: Boarding pass / ticket Jeans, left back pocket: reserved for trash
Jacket, left front pocket: card holder, in which I also keep receipts
Jacket, left inner pocket: Phone
Jacket, front right pocket: varies. Usually a pack of chewing gum and a pen
Jacket, right inner pocket: Wallet with passport and misc other important stuff
Backpack: Two laptops, a change of clothing, USB battery bank, a bunch of adapters so I can plug in almost anywhere, phone stand, misc access cards, a plastic fork, and a toothbrush. Plenty of room to spare for things I add last minute or pick up along the way. When I’m only moving locally, it’s the same except I don’t bring my backpack. And when I’m not flying, I have a small multitool/knife in my right inner jacket pocket instead of my wallet.
Oh, and up until a few hours ago I used to have my sunglasses hanging from a ring that is hanging Frodo-style around my neck. But I realized while I was boarding my plane on my way home that I’d left them in the airport lounge. No time to fetch them, but they weren’t particularly expensive.
Edit: nvm I’m an idiot.
An idiot capable of correcting one self, at least. Whatever your question was, I’m glad I could help (I think?)
Right pocket: Sunbeam F1 flip phone, space pen, moleskin notebook
Left pocket: rotates between Arduboy, Moaan eReader, Flipper Zero, or Rabbit R1
Rear right: wallet (containing car keycard)
Attached to belt: Ricoh GRIII camera
If you don’t mind me asking, do you get any mileage out of the Rabbit R1?
Only picked it up a few days ago.
I went the dumb phone route in March of 2023 because I was constantly scrolling or getting distracted while I was out with my wife. (Still use my iPhone on WiFi at home). Found that it worked well for me, but there would be the occasional question I’d have and have no way to look it up besides asking to borrow my wife’s phone.
She got annoyed, so I got the Rabbit used on eBay for $130. Got a $5/mo sim for it. I think it’s made a lot of improvement since initial launch comparing my experience to reviews. Battery life is well over a day for me, and I haven’t had it glitch out too terribly. Even the scroll wheel isn’t as bad as they say.
You just have to assume that 20% of the time, it’s entirely wrong. Like Diane Keaton wasn’t in 1989’s Parenthood, it was Diane Wiess.
I bought it under the assumption that the company would fold in a year or so, but there’s already a community rooting them and installing base Android. For $130, it’s worth whatever I can get out of it.
Edit: also aware of the glaring security hole, so no personal questions to the R1
This is a very unique EDC
When you ditch the smartphone, you make up for it on other ways.
No offense to anyone who’s into this stuff, but what is the appeal in cataloging and discussing this what’s in your pockets?
It is a bit extra, but I got put on to a lot of different practical utilities such as YubiKeys this way.
I also found the life-hack of adding nail-clippers to my carkeyring. It’s definitely obsessive to an extent tho.
Fortune favors the prepared!Sharing things you find useful in your everyday life so that others might enjoy them or recommend things that would better suit your needs.
Whats its gots in it’s pockets?
I’m always curious because I stopped carrying a purse as it made me feel more femme than I like, and since then I’ve wondered how dudes get through the day with only their pockets.
Either we stuff way too many things in our pockets, or we too have some kind of bag. I don’t think I ever go out of my place without my backpack if I have to bring more than my key/wallet/phone combo.
We sometimes also opt for irresponsibly not carrying what we need to get through the day.
I find it important to have some tools with me. Even if I’m really unlikely to use them, being a useful person who can fix stuff and solve problems is a major component of my self concept.
I also find the tools interesting in their own right. Lots of people like trinkets and gadgets, and there may be no explaining it to someone who doesn’t immediately find that sort of thing appealing.
The component of self concept, that’s exactly it! For me it’s not tools. But I love being the person who always has a band aid, a painkiller, a needle and thread, a tampon. You really don’t need that stuff every day, but when you need it, you NEED it. And it’s nice to get to be helpful like that.
Imo: just getting new ideas for ways to reduce/consolidate the number of things I have to carry every day. I switched from a regular wallet to an ultralight wallet (Ridge, but there are much cheaper alternatives) and it has been helping out my back a lot. It’s also nice to get recommendations for multi-tools and stuff.
I only everyday carry my phone, car keys, apt keys, and wallet, and I often leave my apt keys locked in my car so I have one fewer thing to carry.
It often feels like a culture of consumption. People buying knives, wallets, and pens just for the thrill of shopping for stuff.
You never know when a filthy Baggins is going to come along and ask, “What have I got in my pocket?”
And the correct answer is “String or nothing”.
I have pocket fluff and no tea in my pocket.
For me, it’s neat to know what other people carry. We’re all different people with different stuff and things, and it’s fun to learn about people I reckon. Totally get what you mean though, it’s very mundane lol
Good question! I always carry the vague sense that I’ve forgotten something.
Phone, keys, wallet, hand sanitizer. When I know I’ll be in and out of a vehicle a lot (therefore having to empty my pockets to sit comfortably), I use a small bag that I wear across my shoulder/chest that contains all those things, so it’s easy to remove and put back on.
phone, wallet, garage door opener. All things as small as i could reasonably get them. my wallet holds (and can only accommodate) my drivers license, work badge, and a debit card.
atm an iphone 14 pro. i used to use an android soap phone which was less than half the size, but sadly certain things didn’t work well on it :(
If you count a backpack, i always carry one with my laptop, a current book I’m reading, a handheld game console, and a small med kit with various otc drugs and bandages.
Cell phone, a roll dog poop bags.
My phone has a couple RFID stickers that I’ve cloned my home & work access cards onto. I use tap to pay so I rarely need my wallet.
I like to carry as little as possible, unlike many here.
Same, though I’d like to know about the work access card trick.
Use a flipper or proxmox to clone your card. If you don’t want to buy the gear, someone local on Facebook / craigslist probably offers card cloning. They’ll have a selection that usually includes stickers.
Finding proper tags can be hit and miss, these are what I used last time: https://a.aliexpress.com/_mP8G9eC
These aren’t stickers but I put them under a dbrand phone skin.
Thanks! Stickers sound cool as I don’t like carrying much, just phone with stick on wallet & a little key chain for my motorcycle/house.
But I’ll bet the sticker is a bit chunky?
It’s a mm or two thick. You notice it if you look, but it’s way better than carrying keys.
Cruising sailor who lives on a small sailboat, if I leave the boat, this goes with me. Sometimes more depending.
Wallet, phone, knife, penlight, hat, backpack.
Backpack has: Passport, earbuds, rain fly, two garbage bags, canvas shopping bag, full tang knife, folding knife, headlamp, flashlight, penlight, 10mm socket, 50ml whiskey, flint/steel in a char pouch, extra keys, go pro, camera insert, phone power bank, 1st aid kit (scrapes to medium open wound), signal mirror, 406mhz EPIRB, 2 liter water bladder, small adjustable wrench, mini WD-40, lockpick kit, bandana, backup bucket hat, neck gator, small net bag with various GoPro parts, DEET repellent, extra pair of underwear, an emergency sewing kit, travel toothbrush, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY ABOVE ALL ELSE: something to wipe my butt with, TP or paper towels, or old clothes cut up if it’s really rough or I’m far away from supplies.
Attached to the backpack is an insulated water bottle in carrier and various carabiners.
I never know where I’ll be or what I’ll be doing, and once you are shoreside, plans can change in an instant, both good or bad depending on who you meet, weather etc.
[edit] and a pen & black Sharpie.
What part of the world?
Right now I’m anchored near a mangrove swamp outside of south Florida US. I’ll spend storm season here because the swamp offers protection and I’m 15 minutes or so away from it. Bahamas in November, Colombia for NYE and Brazil or Panama and back through the canal by this time next year when my Colombian visa expires.
Man… South Florida and Caribbean last place I want to be during storms. Interesting to hear the swamps are safer

Slim Fold Micro
I hadn’t heard of this company before, these look awesome, and just what I may be looking for! I presume by your hyperlink that your experience has been positive?
I think ming is like 5 years old and still going.
I have the Black & Green limited edition from their Kickstarter.
EDIT: wow, I just checked in my emails and I received it in November 2014. That’s a long-lasting and durable wallet 🤯
I also have a slimfold micro that I’ve been using so long I don’t remember how old it is.
I carry around a messenger bag with lip balm, wet wipes, earplugs, earbuds, bandages, sunscreen, sunglasses, a respirator, a hairbrush, a phone charger, a flashlight, and a reusable shopping bag.
Oh damn, can of worms opened!
My pockets carry is wallet, keys, two knives, emergency meds, bandana, and edc kit.
Keychain has two mini tools on it, one a knife pick (I can explain later if anyone cares) and a key tool from from niteize.
Edc kit is in a generic edc pouch. Lighter, mini multi tool, workkos aaa flashlight, mini pry bar that was a gift (never would have bought one), and a little whistle that has a storage tube with a sewing kit in it, plus a smaller knife than the two I keep clipped to my pocket.
Yes, that’s three knives, wanna fight about it? ;) hell, it’s four if you count the useless blade on the mini multi tool.
I also carry a smaller flashlight around my neck on a bead chain. It is incredibly useful, and I highly recommend this form of carry. Mine is an olight keychain light, the i3eeos. Single aaa battery, decent output and battery life. But it hangs just right to illuminate things where I would otherwise have to hold a light in my mouth, or have a headlamp. I use it multiple times a day sometimes, what with piddling around the chicken coop and whatnot.
Seriously, it is the second most used item I carry. It would be the first, but my main knife gets used hard in the yard lol. It’s an old benchmade 710.
Now, I also have two carry kits for other supplies. A shoulder bag and a backpack. That’s stuff that isn’t pocket carry possible, and/or would only be useful if I’m away from home and get stuck overnight, or in specific use cases that are annoying enough to merit the carry.
The big bag has all the same stuff as the little, with extras.
Little bag has a “device kit” with power bank, cables, etc. Pens, pencil, better multi tool, bigger flashlight (still hand sized, but there’s throws better light), bigger sewing kit, pill case with my regular meds for two days worth, and a mini 1st aid kit, plus whatever I decide to throw in.
The backpack adds a poncho that can double as a blanket, a usb bank as well as power bank, a bigger knife, some basic emergency food ( granola bars usually, plus some water purification tablets), and has room for various devices, including a laptop and multiple tablets or phones. That’s what I have with me when going more than a half hour from home, always. The smaller bag is for in town carry.
And don’t get me started on my car kits. Seriously, don’t ask, in not typing that much lol.
EDC for me is bare minimum preparedness for an individual. Each “tier” of carry represents having what i need for a given span of time and minor issues that arise often enough to merit the weight.
I see we have an EDC enthusiast in the house ;)
You reminded me that I’ve been needing to do up a car-trunk-kit, and this has given me some good ideas to boot. Thanks for sharing!
Phone, wallet, keys, pen, lighter, knife.
Im one of those weirdos that carries a cross body bag full of stuff everywhere. Here’s what’s in it: The pills are my prescription plus paracetamol. The tube thingy is 50spf sunscreen. There should be a pocket knife but I lost it and haven’t gotten around to getting a new one yet.
I’m sorry for your loss.
Thank you. It really feels like it, I’d been carrying for half my life.
Ugh the casualness of the earlier mention helped me avoid feeling terrible for you. Now the truth is heartbreaking.
Plus in my backpack, there’s everything I need for staying the night somewhere. I used to live way out of town and frequently miss the last bus, so it became a habit to be prepared.
I have one pair of underwear, one pair of socks, a toothbrush+paste, face moisturizer and hand cream.
Also, a foldable reusable shopping bag, a small umbrella, and a water bottle.
Found my EDC doppleganger lol. Almost down to every item in the backpack at least. Suncreen is so underrated!
Are those plasters I see? Too many people forget those😂I’ve ended up awkwardly searching for one after an accident cooking or paper cut one too many times Always stay prepared
Yes they are! I have dry cuticles that I sometimes absent mindedly pick so I need those frequently lol
Leatherman does engraved knives. I have mine engraved with my name and cell number.
Not weird at all imo. This is all very useful
Thanks for saying that! My friends joke that I look like a tourist with the bag though
Your friends are wrong 😤
In their defence. I often wear a bucket hat in the same colour.
Found the Austrian. :) #tirolgehtanders
Caught me :)
I’m gonna take this opportunity to plug the nuknives u23. As a lefty, finding a utility blade knife that is lefty friendly is near impossible. This thing fits the bill with flying colors. Bonus: They sell tons of replacement parts, should you damage it. If you have a job that’s hard on knives, this is the one for you.
Phone + Magsafe Wallet with ID, drivers license and credit card
Keys in a Orbitkey organizer with a multitool, an Airtag and a MagNut to attach my car keys on if needed*
An Alpaka Zip Pouch with an Olight Open Mini pen, more cards, some cash and loads of small, flat stuff like band-aids, a tick remover, a few rounds of flattened duct tape and so on
*The little magnet is a bit annoying because it attaches to all kinds of stuff that it should not. I’m going to get something that attaches without magnets
