I bought a small sailboat ($12k usd) and have been off-grid for 6 years now. My bills are (minus food) under $400/m, in South Florida / The Keys. I drive a 22 year old Toyota with 250000 miles on it I paid off in full MANY years ago. I shop Goodwill and used bundles on eBay. I only purchase food, underwear and sex toys new, everything else is used.
Lower your expectations, get rid of as many reoccurring monthly bills as possible, extract yourself from the madness.
It took me three long fucking years to get here from where you are exactly now, and that includes paying off most of my debts. I became debt free in late 2022 at 55 years old. Late for sure, but across the line nonetheless . Don’t give up hope, keep fighting, change your goals.
I’ll help you however I can as well bro/sis. Don’t let the bastards keep you down.
I’m so glad I left the industry…
I’m in Miami now and it floods at the drop of a hat. It seems that the city planners couldn’t foresee the world’s most inevitable problem of a sea level coastal city. Climate change will turn this place into soggy bug infested mold one day. Can’t happen soon enough to a shittier place.
No. Florida republicans hate trans & poc.
Abandon all things Musk.
When’s the last time anybody got excited about a new phone?

I habitually avoid anything with a descriptor of immersion / immersive, because IT NEVER IS. It’s a marketing single word used nowadays to convey what used to be called themed.
Cruising sailor who lives on a small sailboat, if I leave the boat, this goes with me. Sometimes more depending.
Wallet, phone, knife, penlight, hat, backpack.
Backpack has: Passport, earbuds, rain fly, two garbage bags, canvas shopping bag, full tang knife, folding knife, headlamp, flashlight, penlight, 10mm socket, 50ml whiskey, flint/steel in a char pouch, extra keys, go pro, camera insert, phone power bank, 1st aid kit (scrapes to medium open wound), signal mirror, 406mhz EPIRB, 2 liter water bladder, small adjustable wrench, mini WD-40, lockpick kit, bandana, backup bucket hat, neck gator, small net bag with various GoPro parts, DEET repellent, extra pair of underwear, an emergency sewing kit, travel toothbrush, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY ABOVE ALL ELSE: something to wipe my butt with, TP or paper towels, or old clothes cut up if it’s really rough or I’m far away from supplies.
Attached to the backpack is an insulated water bottle in carrier and various carabiners.
I never know where I’ll be or what I’ll be doing, and once you are shoreside, plans can change in an instant, both good or bad depending on who you meet, weather etc.
[edit] and a pen & black Sharpie.
