@[email protected] Would you like a Reddit Bridge?
We already have a Twitter Bridge for Mastodon and an Instagram Bridge is being worked on by the same .makeup team / person.
Would you like to see Reddit Bridged / Mirrored so you could see the posts you’ve been ‘missing’ off here?
Good Lord no
I would for more niche stuff, but I’m guessing my instance would defederate from it.
Short answer: No
Long answer: Fuck nooooooooooooooo
I’d subscribe to a lemmy community that was bridged. would it behave similar to a bot, that feeds information from reddit to lemmy?
Already exists. Go to lemmit.online. I use it to keep up with news from niche communities.
I don’t know, I burned that bridge for a reason, mainly Spez and the whole API debacle (RIP Reddit is Fun). I also don’t want to contribute to sending traffic to Reddit nor pulling posts from it.
I also don’t use X nor Instagram. If Lemmy becomes like that, I’m gonna make like a tree and fuck off.
It wouldn’t put things into Reddit but would only pull from it. But understandable if you wouldn’t want to touch it, Doesn’t it make sense to let each user on the Fediverse to choose that?
Yes
But understandable if you wouldn’t want to touch it, Doesn’t it make sense to let each user on the Fediverse to choose that?
There are already two projects that mirror/bridge Reddit posts to Lemmy. Unsurprisingly, they have very little interaction right now. I’ve subscribed to some, and even I don’t interact with those myself. Not because I hate it though, but because I find no reason to.
I think most of us know why we’re here.
But like checking reddit every two seconds as people are linking it doesn’t make sense does it?
Maybe it just sounds like you’re advocating for Reddit posts because your Lemmy feed isn’t congested with trash. And, who’s checking reddit every two seconds? Not this cookie.
Also, on a personal level, I found most of the trans communities on Reddit cringeworthy and deplorable. It’s a major factor why I left. I find people here more intelligent and open-minded, regardless of the lack of content.
Link to the instagram bridge project?
No.
Follow up question: if such a bridge did exist, how would one go about blocking it?
No. Go to:
- lemmit.online
- zerobytes.monster
We keep them separate for a reason. These posts get zero engagement and just litter the place. Almost no one likes them.
I think @[email protected] already tried it and people didn’t seem to like it
I don’t want to contribute over there. I want them to collapse under the weight of all the AI slop there. I prefer mastodon but at least the bridge to blue sky there isn’t supporting for-profit, ad-driven, ai driven dreck.
then leech their content without giving them advertising clicks
So what is stopping a one-way bridge? Reddit content here but no content back?
If the content was interesting to the users here, it’d be posted by someone who noticed it elsewhere.
I’m much more of a fan of organic engagement here rather than bots reposting content from other sites
Nice, question asked and answered
Yeah, I have reddits I use for my local area and I’d love if I could have them bridged so I can at least see the updates and it might make a few of my locals move over here instead of reddit in the long run as they wouldn’t miss out on anything, if anything they miss less over here.
If it’s your own sub, them just post here as well. Don’t even bother bringing reddit up.
Reddit’s moderation staff was awful, but the content over there was so good
You can request that one to be bridged
Can I? Where can I request it?
The lemmit or whatever guy allows you to request subs! :)
I’d rather chop my own dick off, roll it in flour, eggs and bread crumbs, deep fry my dick and eat it with sour cream and sweet chili sauce than have a Reddit bridge.
Or you could just block the bridge… Like I understand wanting to chop your own dick off but for a simple thing you could block… come on.
You asked if I wanted one, I gave you my answer.
We left Reddit because we didn’t want to be part of it, we don’t want it here.
How do we get those more valuable users across then? Those that want to post quality non-AI gen content
I don’t know, it’s not something I actively think about, I like how Lemmy is atm, I like being able to have a civil discussion or be able to post something without angry people being angry, I know some live here, but they’re way more tolerable than over there.
Just let it grow organically.
How is something meant to grow organically with no advertisement?
A bridge isn’t exactly advertising tho, advertising would be telling Reddit users about Lemmy, linking posts from Lemmy to Reddit, or talking about Lemmy there in general, a bridge is just gonna make Lemmy worse in my opinion. Like I said, we came here because we didn’t like Reddit.
Word of mouth is by far the best way to advertise Lemmy.
Word of mouth is great if people genuinely talk about it, like I do my best to talk about these sorts of software but it has just turned to ‘Here we go again’ more than ‘Yeah I want to join’. Any new people I talk to about it just seem not interested.
In the wild I’ve never really met anyone that is trying to advertise anything like this, so we might need a little more than just word of mouth.
Great, now I’m hungry for a battered sav
60% of the posts I see link me to reddit anyways
Can we build a bridge a burn it down when they are coming across?
It would be a one way bridge for the content that we feel are missing such as really small communities and when they move across it makes sense to get rid of it (at least a good amount of the users) so yes.
As long as the bridge is burning and preventing any of it to make it here, great.
Reddit has lost all value and is the frontpage of the dead internet.
fuck no
I quit reddit for a reason
I thought most people moved from Reddit due to the way the platform was managed with AI stuff and the API
admins, monetization, AI moderators (I got banned for telling people NOT to use “gay” as an insult), advertisements, privacy rights violations, and spez.
if I can read the content without all that ^ shit, then I’m all for it. leech their content, give them nothing.
That was the straw but it was a progressively degrading experience for years before that
Those things had a cascade effect.
API change > 3rd party tools moderators depended on no longer functioned > mods quit because they could no longer manage the subs effectively > the one sub I spent most of my reddit time on is now unrecognizable, filled with alt-right nut bars, 3/4 of which I assume are bots.
I don’t want a bridge because reddit today is not at all the reddit I used to get some entertainment from. Or I guess go ahead with a bridge, I’ll just block it and go about my merry way.
I left because Steve Huffman destroyed everything good about it in the name of money.
Not only did he destroy it, but he was a smug shithead about it.
.world is the reddit bridge
