The issueance of said birth certificates is a power reserved to the states, and state-issued documents must be given full faith and credit. US citizenship is supposed to be secondary to someone’s citizenship to the state. So, if the states have to give them credit, so too must the federal government.
You also get a court-appointed lawyer if you don’t have other options and staying silent in jail for a week is preferable to admitting whatever they want you to admit to secure a conviction.

I wish you well but you may be underestimating how far down we’ve gone. If you try to walk away or put up a fight, and you will be swarmed by cops who will take you to the ground with no concern for the injury they are doing. At the least you will be bleeding, at the worst you’ll get some broken ribs or worse.
Once they’re done beating on you, you will be detained, I won’t say arrested, and you will be taken to an ICE facility where you will not get a phone call or access to a lawyer or medical care. After a day or two, maybe less, you will be transferred to an ICE facility a few states away, or maybe on the other side of the nation. Your friends and family will not be informed and will have no way to find you until ICE decides you’ve had enough and let’s you go. Assuming they don’t just deport you for the hell of it.
Remember, until you prove you’re a citizen, you don’t get due process. And of course, without due process you can’t prove you are a citizen.

They don’t deserve the benefit of the doubt. Facial recognition has already resulted in false arrests, damage to people’s homes, vehicles, livelyhood etc by normal police. ICE has even less supervision and is known to willingly hire people with violent crime records.

There’s already stories of US citizens being detained despite having valid ID on them. There’s financial incentives for them to bring in as many people as possible and they don’t care if they get it wrong.

False positives are arrested and held in custody until the legal system can get to them.

What made me think that it wasn’t that case was that OP mentions app specifies whether or not an order of deportation had been issued.
If that is one of several possible “detain” conditions, the app would function like case 2. If that was the only trigger for detention, the app would function like case 1.

The point of these programs is to eliminate ‘doubt’, the agent KNOWS that the machine is saying that the target should be detained and that’s all they need for an excuse to effect an arrest.
The fact that their knowledge is based on flawed technology isn’t something that you can argue in the field, only in front of a judge which is well after you’ve been arrested.
This technology is used like drug sniffing dogs are used now. They provide an excuse, probable cause, and the fact that it’s completely possible to arbitrarily generate probable cause isn’t something that helps you during your encounter.
It’s a shit tactic but, absent legislation from a working government, law enforcement can get away with shady and unconstitutional tactics. Since we don’t have a functioning federal government we have to deal with these shady tactics from law enforcement and hope that courts will eventually find the truth.
