According to a recently released survey, there is no one more loyal, more supportive, than american white evangelicals. They absolutely love him.
My question is why? This guy posted a picture of himself as the Pope.
Don’t they have any basic respect?
It baffles me too. The way I once heard someone explain it on tv is that they don’t want Trump preaching in a church, they want him guarding the church. Despite him not practicing Christian values, they think he can protect Christian values
Fascists love fascists
White Evangelicals watch Fox News.
The reality is just totally different. But also:
After the death of Pope Francis, he posted an AI picture of himself as the new Pope
Even if this somehow got through, they kinda hate how liberal the pope is.
You know evangelicals don’t follow the pope, right? They’re pretty antagonistic towards Catholicism in general, even without the pope’s politics factored in.

Exactly why I thought they would have been turned off by him equating himself to the papacy.
Evangelicals don’t follow anybody. There’s no Head Evangelical or Evangelical Church. It’s all Shit We Made Up Get On Your Knees Sinner.
Saying you “love” a historical fiction with all your heart is one thing, but these fuckers are twenty-levels inside the trap. There’s no way out but to burn it down and of course that’s the main rule they cannot break.
Liberal is perhaps not the appropriate word but I understand. They don’t know who Jesus was, what he did and say, but they’ll bomb brown people for him! 🙃
They really don’t know Jesus, at all.
(I’m not religious, but I can read.)
Like, Jesus had only one major commandment: Love Thy Neighbor.
And Jesus did not command his followers to worship him. He commanded his followers to follow him. The man who broke bread with harlots and tax collectors.
Jesus didn’t command his folllowers to love their religion, or him, he command them to love their neighbors.
Love Thy Neighbor applies even if thy neighbor is brown, poor, queer, radical, lazy, immigrant, or crazy.
Look, I don’t purport to be a Christian, because I know I don’t love all my neighbors. I fall faaaar short of all that. Sometimes I want to kick my neighbors in the dick. Nor do I believe in universal forgiveness or turning the other cheek.
But I don’t preach at them about how to “live like Jesus,” either.
Hypocrisy I cannot tolerate. And evangelicals are the worse. Read your own holy book, dipshits!
Maybe we need more literate, ‘irreligious’ preachers, then, cause you seem to really know what’s up. 😉
Thank you for the kind words
literate ‘irreligious’ preachers were rounded up, tortured, and brutally killed many, many times in the past so that the church could be what it is today.
There is no point in expecting the church to become something it can never be: an honest institution.
Its main function throughout history, though usually unstated, was to consolidate and wield political power, as it is doing now.
Nothing changes.
Like, Jesus had only one major commandment: Love Thy Neighbor.
Wut? Jesus had lots of commandments. Just read the Sermon on the mount and you’ll spot dozens. And the entire thing is hugely problematic as well, you can’t really find three concurrent sentences that are good.
Blessed are the cheesemakers ?

Because they are stupid and evil. Just like trump.
They have been conditioned since birth to believe without evidence that which the prominently positioned man in the front of the room tells them. They don’t end up practicing critical thinking skills and instead memorize talking points for defense.
When a different prominently positioned man comes along and tells them without evidence the cause of all their problems is a convenient scape goat they need to hate and abuse they lack the skills to determine whether that is correct or not. Then when the right wing machine delivers the talking points in a few days they don’t even think they’re ignorant.
Jerry Falwell JR, son of the guy that started the “Moral Majority” movement–an influential development that unified different sects under a monolithic right wing voting block centered around the “abortion issue”–was himself a prominent evangelical who got cucked by the poolboy and separately was photographed with his pants undone standing with a woman that was not his wife.
Ravi Zacharia was a prominent evangelical minister and apologist who sexually assaulted multiple women.
Franklin Graham, a prominent evangelical in his own right and son of the famed Billy Graham is a homophobe and an islamaphobe who over pays himself from his charities.
Bob Jones university (whose refusal to admit black students led to formation of the “Moral Majority” which led to the ultimate reversal of Roe) covered up multiple cases of sexual abuse.
These are just a few failings of the church. There are many more. And in pretty much every case the church has delivered talking points, shunned victims that spoke out, and let back in perpetrators who’ve “made right with God.” They are filled with support for abusers, so to them when a man comes along with the opulent veneer of success who happens to be a serial abuser it’s no big deal to follow him.
The phrase “God uses imperfect people for his perfect will” is not so much the reason as it is a thought-terminating justification to allow followers to abate their guilt.
Not Christian, so take it with a grain of salt, these are just my observations:
These are people who thought that public schools not actively supporting their religion was the same thing as religious persecution. If “woke” stuff represents their shrinking influence over public life, then a government being “anti-woke” lets them go back to asserting themselves over others, or at least not having their views challenged. So even if the leading guy isn’t a moral paragon of their religion, the fact that he’s giving them permission to go back to their old ways is probably good enough.
Also, not really relevant, but the last bit about the Pope is funny to me. Most American Christians are Protestant. Evangelicals specifically are Protestants. While it probably isn’t a big deal anymore, tensions between WASPs and the more recent Catholic immigrants from Italy and Ireland were a feature of early to mid 20th century politics. It was actually a pretty big deal when JFK was elected because he was Catholic. So I really doubt Evangelicals care much about the Pope other than when he happens to agree with them.
Because Trump tailors a lot of things he does and says to appeal to them.
Because he is white, racist, and selfish just like them, regardless of what he feels about religion.
Those people already are stupid ad gullible, so pointing them to a new idol is easier than with smart people.
The Kingdom, The Power, and The Glory has a good dive on how they’ve squared that circle.
There’s some who see the threat to Christianity as being so high they must make a deal with the devil to save it.
Some say God works through flaws men.
Some think it’s all lies spread by enemies of Christianity.
They’ve also all got an idolatrous view of the faith where America and the flag are synonymous with Christianity.
Most evangelicals aren’t hicks. They live in the suburbs.
Their flock/prey is the same. Uneducated people who want to blame everyone but themselves
Evangelical Christianity tells you not only that you are the main character in the world, and are therefore owed everything, it also teaches that you are not responsible for your own failings and Christ absolves all. So, in affect, it encourages narcissistic tendencies and Trump shows through Narcissism you can be all powerful without any responsibility.
He is their ideal, therefore, he is their Christ.
nailed it. whatever the faith says is not the same thing that it’s doing psychologically. he actually aligns with the psychology of Christianity, more than that yuppie hobo Jesus. and as a caveat he’s giving Christians permission to ignore all of the challenging parts of their faith.
Because their pastor said they should. Don’t underestimate religion’s ability to brainwash.
