I’m not looking for “getting rid of group of people x” or “restricting country/company y”. But the positive implications of those, and other stuff you’re looking forward to. What’s going to be great for everyone?
I think it depends on your definition of positive.
In the short-term I think there will be some economic benefits. Long-term not so much.
But for positive effects that’s about all I’ve got.
The political climate will become more divisive.
Red states will enact more regressive policies driving left-leaning voters out, while attracting large businesses into those states with economic incentives. Which will cause blue states to lose jobs.
The Democrat party will be pushed further to the right as they try to court the needed electoral college votes from red states, leaving their actual voter base feeling less and less represented and driving resentment from the left.
All of which will eventually set the stage for a second American civil war within the next couple of decades. Though that assumes we don’t blunder our way into WW3 by antagonizing China with a trade war when they’ve already indicated that they intend to start militarily enforcing their One China policies. A protracted trade war with the US would potentially force their hand. If that happens we will be forced to defend our allies in Asia, particularly Taiwan and China has enough allies and is economically powerful enough that such a conflict could rapidly balloon into a world war. Which would likely stave off an American civil war for at least a few additional decades.
I think we’re watching the culmination of nearly a century of shortsighted, reactive policies enacted by greedy people that have progressively escalated in a way that you could almost mistake for a long term plan. I don’t think any of this will end well and I think the new administration is in a position to make things significantly worse for a great many people and fully intends to do so. Nothing good will come of this.
I’ll get richer, but my kids won’t (without my help).
That’s the funny thing, on paper his policies work out quite well for myself. I just have this stupid thing where I care about what happens to other people. If I could turn that off then it would be great! Instead I voted to, you know, help the poor, help those in need, to minimize inequality. They apparently voted to give me tax cuts. It’s honestly insane, did they really think he was going to help them?
I work for an established US company, but I’m in a foreign country.
I expect my employer will receive tax cuts, so the company should have more cash. I expect this means my job will be more secure in the short term.
However, I believe Trump has talked about international tariffs and lowering the US dollar. So that could remove some certainty.
I will probably personally benefit from a simple financial perspective. I’m a white collar worker in an industry that will grow under Trump and I have a healthy investment portfolio.
A lot of that gain is going to route to places like Planned Parenthood and to supporting a friend whose life has already been destroyed by reproductive rights rollbacks in her home state. I need to do my homework on supporting victims of Israel’s genocide in Gaza; I want to put more towards that than I have been. I haven’t even wrapped my head around what this is going to mean for Ukrainians. And immigrants to the US. And women in the US beyond just reproductive rights. And LGBT+ people in the US. It’s a lot.
Hey, I love to see you fight for what you think is right! Keep it up! We need more people like you!
As a white guy I’ll have even more privilege.
It’s gonna be sweet
until the bubble bursts and the second great depression starts
Hmm, good for you, I guess?
I don’t actually like it … just answering the question very literally.
When Trump’s health catches up with him and he dies. And his cult of personality dies with him.
Of course, by then, the fascists will have already done a lot of damage as far as cementing future authoritarian regimes.
Nothing good will come. Suffering is not a requirement for enlightenment.
Well, that’s kinda sad
I no longer need to worry about how to pay for healthcare after I retire as I’ll have to work until I die, now.
Well, I guess you gotta take a win somewhere
I think the American people will finally have their concept of a bubble of immunity to consequences shattered. It’s going to fucking suck but hopefully it’ll set up millennials and gen-z up to be a new greatest generation that’ll keep the ship righted for a handful of decades.
Then again, I’m quite the fucking optimist.
From a Non-American perspective: Europe will hopefully become less dependent on the US and finally build a proper unified army. We might get more skilled migrants from the US, who will bolster our economy.
Can yall accept Canada as honorarily European?
Assuming we don’t fuck this next election (which will take a fucking miracle) we’re worth saving!
Sure you can become honorary Europeans along with the Australians. You’ll be expected to send a Eurovision candidate though!
We’ve got Bieb- wait no we’ve got other people too - please don’t slam the door so fast!
Opal in sky has been hot lately - we’ll send them!
I suspect a united states brain drain too. I hope it won’t be too detrimental to those living there
Mass strikes, mass protests. In other words left organizing is the only positive I expect out of the coming term.
And I expect it will be met with state violence and terrorism because Trump has already said that’s his plan.
And then Sutler will do the only thing he knows how to do
It’s less likely that conversations with my dad lead to him ranting about how Palestinians are basically Nazis now that we have actual Nazis to worry about
Enjoy the little things
I hope he will keep his word and finish the war in Ukraine.
Saving millions of lives will probably make US democrats and all the other sadists very sad though :)
He’ll end the war in Ukraine by letting Russia win and you are a fool if you think Russia will stop there
Saving lives is a good thing. I don’t care that people wanna cry about it
In what way can he do that?
Once it’s over he can never run again and will stop being relevant
We’ll have to see when the time comes. I was looking for the time he’ll be active as president tho
Can you elaborate? You’ve got to understand that this is a pretty unpopular opinion here.
I know it’s unpopular. I’m looking for opposing views to mine. There must be people here who are expecting something good to come from their vote
Inb4 “constitutional scholars” submit an amicus brief to the Supreme Court arguing “acktually it’s only a limit on consecutive terms”.
Also, there are quite a few dynastic successors he could set up.
Lastly, as long as that mouth breather is cognizant enough to dial fox news his bullshit opinions will be taken as fucking gospel by conservatives.
I sadly don’t share your optimism that in four years his influence will magically dissolve.
The scariest part of the last 3 elections is moderates still expect trump to follow the rules…
