Here’s the time that Scout managed to get himself locked inside a room in the governor’s mansion and the fire department needed to come rescue him. https://www.today.com/pets/minnesota-governor-dog-locked-bedroom-rcna122484
that picture of the dog 🥰
Aww. Poor Scout. We have to keep our big dog out of the kitchen with a gate so our little dog can eat his food before the big one eats it (he has a hole he can go through), but occasionally we forget we let her into the kitchen. 20 minutes later, we’ll see her silently standing by the gate, patiently waiting to be let out.
His dog is named Scout, and his daily driver car is an International Harvest Scout… Coincidence?
Really happy that Minnesota got their first dog.
More people should know about dogs.
785/10. Would pet.
Pretty dog, now get a breakaway collar on it
Damn, I have never had such a neutral comment catch so many downvotes.
I’m kind of proud
This isn’t your moment .
I’ve never seen a breakaway on a dog. My trainer recommended a martingale, though two dogs now are “special” and were abused rescues that bite the shit out of me.
I haven’t either, and I just did some searching and I’m not seeing vets saying you should use one. I’m seeing a lot of companies that sell them claiming that vets say that, but I’m not seeing it anywhere. I’ve had four dogs in my life and I’ve never been in a situation with any of them where a breakaway collar would be needed.
It’s an abundance of caution thing I guess, I didn’t know they were so controversial.
My dog has a collar for ID and a harness for walking with
Someone above mentioned that boarding places want them sometimes. That seems reasonable. Less likely that the dog will escape and more likely it will hurt itself when there are no staff. I wish I could find a boarder that was staffed 24/7. There was a huge fire in Austin a while ago at a boarding place and every single animal perished.
I’ve never, ever heard of a breakaway dog collar. Cats are the ones jumping off stuff, squeezing through small spaces, climbing and having a much higher risk of strangulation via a caught collar. Dogs don’t typically do that, so their risk is very, very low.
They’re required by some dog boarding/daycare places.
a shoulder harness can save their trachea.
Harness for walks, collar for ID.
That’s what I do. She still wears the martingale and I suppose if she is being a dick I could hook up to that, but I have a nice 3 point harness with a handle so if she gets in to trouble I can just pick her up like a suitcase 🤣
She hates when I do that of course
😂
My dog hates wearing a harness. We’ve tried a ton of different types, and he just doesn’t like it for some reason.
He doesn’t really pull on his leash, though.
You mean to tell me Minnisodans haven’t had dogs before? I don’t fuckin’ believe ye!
The first dog in Minnesota?! What did they do before that? Everyone out walking their porcupines / large lizards / capybara in the park? What? How did they not import dogs from the next state?!
The first dog in Minnesota?! What did they do before that
Moose, elk and hockey players. Also a few stray Wisconsinites.
The Wisconsinites are expensive to feed…
Yeah, Minnesota almost ran out of cheese, Vikings fans, and beer!
Ironically… Minnesota produced more cheese (and dairy products in general. Land O Lakes is based here.) and Wisconsin has more lakes.
That’s only because Wisconsin defines “lake” differently.
Hold up. They only have more lakes because they count ponds. A lake in Minnesota is “a body of water greater than 10 acres”. Wisconsin does not have a standard.
Details…. Details….
(You’re not wrong, that is why. But still I like some good irony.)
To be fair, depending on her physical stature, the woman behind the quote is a big Meaney!
And some Canadians that were reading their compass wrong.
For the love of god, nobody tell Kristi Noem. She gets a bit trigger happy around loveable, innocent creatures.
Obviously a DEI hire.
You joke, but after the things they’ve come up with so far to attack Harris and Walz with, I wouldn’t even be a little surprised if some Newsmax flunkie said that. Or just criticized Walz for getting a rescue rather than buying an inbred purebred dog from a puppy mill.
I’m seriously waiting for someone at Fox News to mention that it’s a black dog. it’s inevitable.
“Look how horrible this man is! What an awful man!” - GOP
Literally every single thing I’ve learned about Tim Walz has been super uplifting.
Only detraction is the DUI. Probably would have been a bigger deal before 2016… now we have felons running for president.
Judging by how it happened, he had a bad experience with cops, which he will likely remember.
I legit have hope. It fells nice
I like this dude more with each article I see. 💙
Did you read this?
I can’t wait to hear the “how dare he help someone in medical distress while he’s supposed to be campaigning!” screams from the right.
He’s robbing our poor, starved healthcare system of revenue that is rightly theirs!
Tim Walz seems like what would have happened if Mr Rogers went into politics.
But with an edge. Mr. Rogers would never call out Republicans for being weird.
You know what?
Right? Where was this 10 years ago?
This feels like the wholesome Democrat version of the Maga cult.Tim Walz is the person who actually cares about rural folks that Trump was pretending to be. Of course Walz is known for helping regular middle class folk by primiting green energy, while Trump focused on the coal miners who are small in number who were clinging to a dying pollution causing fossil fuel undustry.
What’s his secret service bite count so far?
JD Vance
i feel like it’s obligatory to share this also: https://www.gq-magazine.co.uk/politics/article/donald-trump-dogs
lots of people don’t call themselves “dog people,” and some are even afraid of them. but it’s a huge red flag and sus as fuck when i find out someone actively hates dogs. or cats. what kind of weird psycho attitude is that?
I don’t like cats. But I’m severely allergic so it’s too be expected. I mainly dislike cat owners who let their cats roam.
I bet cats like you though. They seem to be attracted to allergic people.
I love cats but I too dislike people who let their cats roam. Cats are perfectly capable of getting enough exercise indoors, due to their use of vertical space, and they become an invasive species when they’re feral or roaming. I support TNR programs because leaving neutered ferals in place keeps from opening a niche for more breeding cats, and because they aren’t really adoptable. Although some can be given rodent-control jobs on farms and the like. That’s outdoors but it’s not the same as roaming around the city.
Not only is roaming bad for the environment and local eco system, people near me let their cats roam. I live in a condo and see them roaming my area, But our building uses poison to keep mice at bay, and any mice near here are liable to be poisoned, which is dangerous for kitty. Also we see coyotes regularly in my area, which is super dangerous for kitty. I always try to tell the neighbors to keep their cats indoor for their safety
I can understand people not liking dogs. I can’t understand people who hate dogs.
I really can’t understand people who are universally hated by dogs. And cats. Cats don’t like trump either.
Like. What kind of foul, loathsome shitstain-on-the-universe do you have to be, for not a single golden retriever to accept you?
Lots of evil people have pets that love them. Here’s Blondi, Hitler’s dog. So it really says something that Trump apparently doesn’t register as a human to animals.
TBF I’ll bet dogs fucking hate him and he’s just responding to that. Dogs can usually tell a creepy weirdo.
I’d bet even mosquitoes don’t want to be anywhere near him.
Can mosquitos even suck blood from a leech? I feel like blood probably doesn’t taste as good when it’s secondhand.
I read that as the first dog ever in Minnesota and was very confused until I recognized the name
Same! Well, almost. I read “First Dog”. I understood what “First Dog” was supposed to mean. But for some reason my brain processed it as “first First Dog” and I was amazed no other governor in Minnesota had a dog, until I realized it just said “First” once.
Damn, Walz feels like the first human being up for office in I don’t know how long. IMO Sanders was pretty real, but he has a lot of institutional weight and history behind him. I thought Fetterman was close, but he’s not who we thought he was going to be. There may have been others I can’t think of off the top of my head, but they just didn’t make an impression.
I’m sure the press has a lot to do with what we see of Walz, but everything I’m seeing so far really just makes him seem like “one of us”. Literally taking care of the average person, having a rescue dog and not some breed ans a statement, etc.
As a Minnesotan I just have to say that I am so fucking happy that you all are giving him this reception. I was woried that when he got this position people would seem him as just some flyover state grandpa nobody cared about.
But you all seem to love him as much as we have here and it really gives me so much hope for this country. Like literally brings a tear to my eye.
My opinion as a german probably doesn’t really matter, but this guy as well as Kamala are giving me hope again that the world might not have gone completely mad. Also if this works out for you guys I hope the german party system is paying attention.
Since Jimmy Carter, I’d imagine
