For me it’s Home Movies
black dynamite ?
Oh yeaaaah 😹😹
The fact that no one said the Venture Bros. yet proves it’s the correct answer.
I have watched and loved a lot of the shows other people have brought up, but the Venture Bros. hold a very special place in mine and other people’s hearts. Incredibly funny and intelligent, and I genuinely cared about the characters and what happened to them. I firmly believe it will likely be the greatest show Adult Swim ever produced.
For those trying to get into it, the first season is a little slow, they were still figuring things out, but season 2 onwards is all incredible.
For those trying it,
I didn’t come into here with Venture Bros. In mind. But that show is high art. 👍👍
For some reason I keep thinking of Neon Joe Werewolf Hunter. I always reference that show just for how wild it gets.
Common side effects is pretty rad. Idk if its underrated tho
Watched it 2 weeks ago. NEW FAV
12 Oz mouse and sealab 2021 are alright
China, IL is one of my all time favorites
Don’t forget the ancient skits up on Brad Neely’s youtube that were the precursor for it.
When I was in University, Adult Swim brought one of their “traveling carnival” things through. I know I got rid of my Venture Bros SPHINX! shirt from it, but I’ve got a China, IL pennant flag stashed away somewhere. Hadn’t even watched it at the time, binged it probably half a decade later. Didn’t mean to, but I couldn’t turn it off. Hilarious shit.
We’re all still waiting on Queeblo 002 twelve years later. Queeblo would be so disappointed in how much a Whopper costs now.
Also, Neely’s Magnum Opus will always be Wizard People, Dear Reader.
TBH Brad Neely’s Hawg Nowlin Sclopio Peepio (I think i spelled that close to right) is really fucking weird and cool too
Oh there’s some gems:
-
Hot Streets
-
Lucy, Daughter of the Devil
-

-
Final Space
-
Saul of the Molemen
-

You’re Whole
-
Joe Pera Talks With You
-
Space Dandy
I’m hyped for Haha, You Clowns but I suspect it won’t be as well received as I hope it will be. Joe Cappa’s YouTube channel has been a staple for me for a long time.
Also, just a note but Home Movies wasn’t actually Adult Swim original programming, it was originally on UPN which quickly cancelled it and then Cartoon Network picked it up. I love Home Movies because I love hearing Sam Seder of The Majority Report voicing Fenton Mewly.
Also if you enjoyed Home Movies, you should check out it’s spiritual predecessor from Comedy Central: Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist. First season of Home Movies even used the same “Squigglevision” animation style as Dr. Katz.
Man, early Final Space had some rough points, but there’s not a lot of shows out there that have hit me harder.
Olan Rogers (Final Space Creator) has never really felt like a guy who I would expect to hit a deadline… but the Graphic Novel he got going to finish out the series is supposed to finally drop pretty soon. Was supposed to drop awhile back (Summer 2024?), but it does look mostly complete now judging from progress reports. Like, we’re waiting on them to finish the soundtrack for the graphic novel? Olan is doing something weird, but man I’m willing to give it a shot.
It definitely had a rough start, but I was so disappointed when it got cancelled because it had grown so far beyond it’s silly roots.
the song The Freezer Aisle from Joe Pera Talks With You is an unlikely ethereal banger
I have all three seasons soundtracks, because they’re all so good.
Joe Pera is my favorite out of all of them, honestly. I wanted to get him to sign my copy of his bathroom book “A Bathroom Book Not For People Pooping pr Peeing But Using the Bathroom as an Escape” when I saw his standup show but the crowd was too big and I gave up.
Joe Bennett, the creator of Scavenger’s Reign on HBO and Common Side Effects on Adult Swim did the art for Joe Pera’s bathroom book, which is how I first found his art.

Metalocalypse. If you listen to Rock, this is a must watch.
Season 1 was a masterpiece, at least for me and my drinking buddies. Kinda fell off a cliff, though.
Metalocalypse was amazing. The fact that it was never officially finished is a travesty. Honestly, when Adult Swim did the Petition to Bring Back Metalocalypse fax machine --> paper shredder stunt is around when I kinda lost interest in Adult Swim.
To each their own. But I didn’t like that show personally
Frisky Dingo
If you like it, you’ll like Archer and Sealab 2021 too.
I’m literally standing here going “it wasn’t called murder face, what the hell was the name of that show?l”
Thank you! My wife and I still to this day say “Ok buddy” thanks to Frisky Dingo.
MASTER CYLINDER!!
Also, whenever my wife and I are really sleepy during the day, one of us will pull out "People let me tell you 'bout my NEW BEST FRIEND! Barnaby Jones…
…NAP."
I have FD on DVD, bought it new when the show was still on. Love it.
I feel like sealab is mostly forgotten but was one of the funniest. It was just overshadowed by aqua teen at the time
It wasn’t helped by the voice of Captain Murphy dying so soon into it’s run. His son taking over just didn’t have the same chutzpah as the OG.
Hands down my favorite from that era.
Perfect Hair Forever
Frisky Dingo
Xander: Renegade Angel
Saul of the Molemen
Garth Marenghi’s Dark Place
Actually, I feel like all or most of the live action shows from AS are criminally underrated. Especially the really early ones. The most popular is probably Tim & Eric: Awesome Show Great Job.
Feel like I scrolled a bit far to find a Perfect Hair Forever mention. I like your taste.
I dunno if it’s underrated but Mike Tyson’s mystery tour is great
I can name you many. Superjail, Squidbillies, Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law, robot chicken, aqua team hunger force, home movies, moral orel, the ooblongs, the boondocks, space ghost coast to coast. Thats not mentioning all the fox stuff like american dad or the anime toonami stuff like inuyasha
Well underrated is what I was looking for. Robot chicken and boondocks are extremely well known, same for American Dad and Aqua team
Mission hill
Yeah never heard of this one. I’ll check it out
Ergo Proxy
Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law
I’ve watched it’s very enjoyable and funny
