Because I'm pissed about a bunch of unrelated stuff, here's a brief account of my personal history with Eliezer Yudkowski 1/x

Is it really odd, though? If someone wrote a play where the main character was named after me, was doing the same work I did, and was obsessed with the same particular field of study I was, and then the author tried to claim the play wasn’t “about” me, I’d press X to doubt too.
Which article? You mean the linked Bluesky thread? Or the cringeworthy OkCupid post linked from it? It’s because I read the thread that I thought “yeah, in Yud’s position, I’d doubt the author’s protestations too” 😆
So I responded in the SL4 (which for the life of me I can’t dig up) & went to the trouble of emailing Yudkowski directly, explaining that 1) no I didn’t write about your life but 2) if you happen to be in NYC, I’d love it if he’d attend the play. I also attached a copy of the script in the email 7/x

Yeah if you read the reviews the singularity is more a bit of a godot situation than something Yudi fears and has doubts over, which is a bit different than Yud who created the ‘we must make sure it is friendly’ institute earlier.
Bit like making a play about Jack Thompson but in the play he reviews video games.
I don’t know who Jack Thompson is, so just pretend that I came up with some incredible, witty interleaving of references to waiting for godot, the torment nexus meme, and Jack Thompson
It was the guy angry about videogames. Just an ancient reference nothing special sadly. Just a random guy most people thought was wrong. Turns out GTA isnt a cop killing training simulator.
Of course the newest gta release is turning into a waiting for godot situation. (Apparently it was delayed again, not my game series, only liked the first two)
OH that Jack Thompson. Yeah I remember now. Man, on one hand, his actions were at best misguided and at worst totally insane. On the other hand, IMO we wouldn’t know about him if video game people were by any measure calm or reasonable.
