Most common stimulant drug after caffeine
It says “most frequent stimulant seized”, I doubt much caffeine is being confiscated!
And Tobacco. Greece smokes like a chimney. Pretty sure Turkey isn’t far behind.
And sugar?
Sugar highs are not actually supported by science.
Although, at some point you get into murky territory about what defines a drug, that’s true. Relevant XKCD. I’d say in this case the social understanding that achieving a change to state of mind is the primary goal of a practice is enough.
Oh, I didn’t know that about sugar highs, TIL, thanks!
No problem!
Where would caffeine be seized?
Utah
More land locked, less cocaine.
I mean it does get shipped by sea
Ok, I might be nitpicking here. But why do the Netherlands get “No data” while a bunch of other counties are just left blank?
Why? Because it’s a shitty map from old data. From the source date on the map it may be 10 years old. European Union Drugs Agency has a report each year, you can find the 2024 report here: https://www.euda.europa.eu/publications/european-drug-report/2024_en
European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) was renamed to European Union Drugs Agency (EUDA) in 2024: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Union_Drugs_Agency
On the source website I can’t find this map, but it doesn’t make a too much of sense if you think about it: what is “most frequent”? By used amount? By frequency of use? Or police captures? On the EUDA website there are some interactive maps, but per each substance, and you can change the age groups, as usage can wildly differ between young adults and full adult population:
- MDMA: https://www.euda.europa.eu/media-library/prevalence-mdma-ecstasy-use-europe-2024-or-most-recent-year_en
- Amfetamines: https://www.euda.europa.eu/media-library/prevalence-amphetamines-use-europe-2024-or-most-recent-year_en
- Cocain: https://www.euda.europa.eu/media-library/edr24/dashboard-prevalence-cocaine-use-europe_en
It must be on purpose right. Only thing i can think of is that there were enough studies done (opposed to in Belarus for example), but they contradicted each other.
The EMCDDA is an authority from the european commission, thus has gathered data from the EU (2014 including the UK) and the affiliated countries Norway and Turkey.
Netherlands: No data
Switzerland: Especially no data, mind your own damn business
All drugs should be legal and regulated
That seemingly is not Europe, but in fact is the EU.
On the risk profile of the drug, Turkey and Romania win.
You’d think Netherlands of all places would have data. Did the authorities just give up or what?
The cops were too stoned to care…
Cannabis use prevalence is actually kind of low in the Netherlands, many european countries where it’s illegal have higher prevalences. Turns out, legalizing cannabis doesn’t turn everyone into a stoner.
What’s the difference between amphetamine and methamphetamine, in terms of street drugs and their effects?
They spawn different types of creatures. Like with speed, you get runners, with meth you get clickers
Ya know, I remember watching Breaking Bad and thinking it was odd that the international contact was in Czech Republic.
