Seriously, try it. It’s like a completely new phone/internet. It feels so… so… clean and fresh ✨

Only when the website is unreadable using dark reader. Then i immediately hate the website for having ungodly bright everything.

I switch to light mode on my old MacBook due to the screen not getting to bright in the first place. It’s nice

@Jezebelley Ah I see, this is obviously some strange usage of the word nice that I hadn’t previously been aware of 😅

In all seriousness, I installed Firefox the other day just to say that I have given it a go, and my god without forcing dark mode on everything was really terrible. I can’t believe there was a time that that was all we had!

depends on the thing; i almost never actively switch programs and apps off their default light/dark modes, so if im used to youtube on light mode, im keeping it on light mode.

Did that on my old ThinkPad with basically nonexistent screen brightness. Difference like night and day

Lemmy is one of the few places where light mode makes sense. It’s like nobody creates graphics/images with dark mode in mind, so there’s always some ugly white border, or garbage alpha channel somewhere. It really blows.

It annoys me more that some apps have no light mode now. It’s not a “one is better” problem, both have their use!

one is definitely better. I’ll concede there are extremely niche usually compatability related use cases for light mode, but if there’s a default, it should absolutely be dark.

What’s more annoying are apps that have 3 options.

Light, dark, or follow system. But follow system doesn’t follow system, it is light mode.

That’s strange. I don’t think I’ve ever had that before.

I’ve had it where some apps will give you a kind of greyish dark mode instead of black, that you then need to switch to. But I’ve never had apps use the opposite to my system settings.

Yes, when collaborating with someone who was only familiar with light mode and felt disoriented by the different appearance. I wanted to scream and hiss like a vampire.

For some reason I prefer light mode on photon for Lemmy. Dunno why. I used dark mode for most everything else.

Even as the dev I feel this about photon, i spend so much time messing with dark theme’s colors just to end up preferring light mode anyway

I have enough experience with new devices starting in light mode as default to know that I can’t ever go back.

There are a few websites that don’t appear to have a dark mode that I still read sometimes, and for those the brightness has to be turned down to make it tolerable.

Yes, on an IDE with a horrendous dark theme. Don’t remember which one it was tho. It wasn’t a good experience, still better than the alternative.
