I’ve had it where some apps will give you a kind of greyish dark mode instead of black, that you then need to switch to. But I’ve never had apps use the opposite to my system settings.
It still annoys me that dark mode is not universally available on every app.
It annoys me more that some apps have no light mode now. It’s not a “one is better” problem, both have their use!

Light, dark, or follow system. But follow system doesn’t follow system, it is light mode.

Are you sure you have your system set to dark mode? Is this on Android?
It happened to me on desktop yesterday on some other site. It’s definitely a common bug!
