For example, I don’t like Will Ferrell in his typical roles. Oh they just drive me batty.
But. I do love Stranger Than Fiction. It’s such a cozy movie.
Not 100% of the time but there are several. The one that comes to mind is Jeff Goldblum. My wife feels the same. We never like him but many of the movies we like well enough we just wish he was not in them. So like wicked and the original jurassic park are like that. Curiously I liked him in the fly but that seems to be a one off. Literally the moment I see his face and he speaks I want to punch him.
Leo DiCaprio. No exceptions. The movies he’s been in that I’ve enjoyed were enjoyed despite him and not because of him.
His entire approach to a character is to put on an over-the-top accent and call it a day. I’ve never had the sense that any of his characters were the actual character and weren’t just “Leo with an accent”. I’ll be fair and say that he has improved in recent years, with movies like The Revenant being tolerable.
But holy shit, how his career went anywhere when people saw his “acting” in Titanic and especially Romeo and Juliet, is mind-boggling to me.
John C Riley is an uncomfortable mess in everything he’s in and I cannot stand it. The exception is everything he’s in, which is delightfully uncomfortable.
Jim Carrey in Eternal Sunshine.
He’s OK in other stuff but it’s not my bag unless it’s the fucking mask 👌
Nicole Kidman, creepy
Steve Martin. No idea why. Haven’t found any exceptions
Adam Sandler, even though I love a few of his movies like Uncut Gems, Waterboy, and Happy Gilmore.
Drew Barrymore. no exceptions.
Tom Holland.
Anthony Mackie.
Benedict Cumberbund or however you spell it.
I definitely don’t like the guy who played kylo ren.
Seems like his popularity was completely forced.
Brian Cox, the isn’t-science-and-astronomy-cool guy.
I love his works, cant get enough of the TV he puts out, always look forward to the next one, but there’s just something about him that makes me want to hook him in the jaw. I cant figure out what my problem with him is, but its real.
I came here to say Will Ferrell with the same exception, then read your post.
Stranger Than Fiction shows Will Ferrell is perfectly capable of being a good actor playing interesting roles, but chooses to just play low effort trash.
You stole mine.
“I brought you flours.”
Steven Segal
Cloe Moretz. Talentless piece of shit I’ve hated since the remake of Finnish vampire movie. Winona Ryder has never been likeable. Bad in Girl interupted. Her best movie, still annyoying. Fairly recent Rom Com with Keanu Reeves. Angelina Jolie only good in Gigi. Girl interrupted, decent. Everthing else, awful. Julia Roberts terribad in Pretty Women, and nearly everything else. Erin Brockovich very good.
Fuck (and I cannot emphasize this enough) fuck Timothy Chalamet. He is always so wooden. He can’t act for shit. Hes just a very pretty nepo baby.
Also, can we count film makers? I hate Christopher Nolan. Every movie he makes is such a torturous slog. They are all metaphors for their own creation, and everyone of them is too concerned with the machinery, like hes pretentiously drawing attention to it. “GET IT? IM MAKING A MOVIE? IM A FUCKING GENIUS!”
There are a lot named here who I’m unfamiliar with, and a few who are terrible humans but who I’m clueless about as actors. I don’t think I’ve ever seen any Tom Cruise movies, but OMG:
