IMHO, probably not; musk seems interested in his own finances, and on pitting people against minorities so that they don’t see him stealing from them.
The problem with people like Musk is that they have this wild abundance state of mind in terms of technological advances to the point that they may be concerned about something, but more convinced that we’ll be so advanced that we’ll have something to deal with it later, so it becomes some moot point to them, basically a gamble.
“Can’t we deal with it in 50-100 years when we’ll have even more tools to deal with it?” basically, but yeah if we don’t reach that point we’re very much fucked
I’ve heard this called “soft climate denial”, and unforntuately it’s widespread.
People like Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi say that they believe in climate change. But let’s imagine that we’re roommates and you told me that there’s an out of control wildfire a few miles away and the governor has told us all to evacuate. One roommate says that they don’t belive it and they’re staying. And I say ‘Shame on you for denying this! I firmly believe in the wildfire. It’s urgent that we act now, which is why I’ve ordered travel maps on Amazon so we can begin plotting our evacuation route as soon as they arrive.’
Would you characterize this is accepting the crisis, or being in a state of soft denial?
Not directly addressing the crisis yesterday is just boneheaded. That’s my 2 cents. It’s a pandora’s box that will surprise us in many ways because we have no way of ascertaining what will exactly happen, and we also don’t know if or how it’s possible to reverse half of it.
Musk just being his usual recklessly optimistic self imo
Edit: but to answer your question, yes that is denialism, and I think anything short of actively boycotting the worst offenders in order to deprive lobbyists is denialism or indifference, but I always get called an asshole for thinking the onus should be partly on the consumer. But hey, we vote in progressives and they give us laws and suddenly the Escalade needs a frontal camera because it’s so big. That’s the world we live in, corporations have too much money and too much influence. If you wanna eat the rich it helps to starve them first imo
Yes. Musk will stop believing in global warming because he’s Trump’s bitch.
Trump aside, we’re talking about a guy who has spent his life putting the cart before the horse and went from slapping Roadsters together in a garage to having rockets that land themselves. He’s probably genuinely convinced we’ll come up with something to deal with it later, and every time he wows himself he becomes even more sure of it. Plain hubris
Lmao
musk invented 0 things.
Musk engineered 0 things.
All musk did was market bullshit that doesn’t work/exist. He’s the perfect fit for the GOP.
Musk has never tightened a goddamn bolt in his life, and if you handed him a hammer he would likely hold it improperly.
So would you agree or disagree that his disdain and haughty arrogance might compel him to believe that global warming is just a thing he believes he himself can fix later?
Because I’m just trying to say I believe he’s the kind of guy to act like that
The thing is, global warming isn’t going to make the whole globe uninhabitable, just large parts of it. And Elon is rich enough that it won’t really affect him. He can move to wherever he wants, and can insulate himself from the displaced refugees. So to himself, it doesn’t really matter whether he believes in it, it probably won’t change his actions.
He has gifted kid syndrome. No doubt in my mind he wants any climate crisis fixed and that he wants to be the hero by fixing it and showing the world how exceptional he is. Every time he gets snubbed to help people he loses his mind, and half the time he does, it’s half-assed, but he’s first in line to offer himself for a cause.
The dude thrives off validation of intelligence and if you don’t allow him to interject himself into your bad day he’ll call you bad names (remember the stranded diver fiasco?)
When ever was musk slamming roadsters together in a garage?
Just like every other business he was involved, he didn’t build the basics, he just bought himself in
Tesla was existing before him - when they actually slammed together a roadster in a garage - and with PayPal he only got on after they found their footing (and he fucked up with a competing product as far as I remember)
Without his start capital, he wouldn’t have had anything.
I give him, that this is more than just luck, but it’s much more him being known and having money, than him being a business genius - and I don’t even want to talk about the technical side, because pretty much everything he said on this front was bullshit (from pure software, to automation and…ok, I can’t really talk about rockets, but it also wasn’t him who did the actual work)
In my opinion he is just a parasite, like most so called managers - and CEOs are just the queen of them
Edit: holy fuck, I made quite some typos…
I speak in metaphors, please forgive me. It wasn’t a literal garage, but when Tesla was a penny stock in 2010, compared to what Musk is doing now, it was a metaphorical garage. And he was metaphorically slapping them together. Nobody slaps a car together, they use tools, and owners of companies often aren’t involved with production, but I should have been more detailed
Edit: penny stocks don’t literally cost a penny, I better throw that in there, and that was also used comparatively
But the basic takeaway:
Elon has continued to impress himself with his ideas, possibly to the point that he is confident that he could come up with a solution later, which might make the threat feel less severe. That’s what I meant
Yeah, I get you
I just didn’t want to give him the credit, that he is the actual genius behind the companies, like he always wants to present himself
Because every time he talks about something, I at least know something about (like self-driving cars), I know, he is just talking shit and absolutely doesn’t know what the fuck he is talking about.
So the sentence, that he, like he himself, slaps together cars, was the drop that brought me to that answer.
Wasn’t really against you, I just don’t want to promote his wanted image of a genius inventor
Yeah, he’s flaky as hell, his word means nothing, he bites off more than he can chew, he cannot control his whims, he thinks his knowledge in one field transfers to things he has no business speaking about, his overarching need to seek validation compels him to interject himself into scenarios in which he can attempt to be a hero (and when he doesn’t he throws tantrums), and he’s nonchalant about all of it.
If you’re looking for someone to be concerned about something he has no answer for but also shrug it off like “I can handle it later” he’s just the clown for that
Well, he is just deeply narcissistic and looks for validation, like you say.
I don’t know, if there will ever be a moment, that he thinks he’s successful enough to earn love.
But he is also an adult. And even though he has his emotional problems, he is a very shitty parent to his trans child. And just forwarding all the hate, because he can’t handle his feelings isn’t acceptable.
He still has a shitload of money and just with that enough power to move things.Which is dangerous, when he can influence geo politics that much - see StarLink in war or near war scenarios, and just recently the US election.
I actually would really like to know, why he is feeling so insecure and needs all this validation, and with what success he would say, that’s it, now I’m fine.
He wasn’t slapping them together even metaphorically. He injected huge amounts of cash that enabled the capable people to do their jobs and which allowed the company to grow. Imagine your job getting a huge donation from someone and then that person went around acting like they were sitting in the cubicle next to yours the whole time and even claimed some of your ideas were theirs.
That’s it. He is a coinpurse that also happens to shout insane racist things on Twitter. Elon Musk is fucking dough-brained moron and one of the big problems with capitalism is how much having money makes it harder and harder to lose the more you have.
Well I’m glad I gave you an opportunity to soapbox. That tangeant added to the discussion
It’s truly terrifying how much some people just fall Hook Line and Sinker for propaganda.
Didn’t know this was a pro-Musk and anti-climate community but he is an arrogant bonehead. Sorry to break it to you. Maybe read about the guy
Wow what a clever attempt at misdirection there. Did the Muskrat teach you that when he was telling you about how he built roadsters?
Show me where I said a single thing pro Musk aside from “slapping together Roadsters in a garage”. Big brain of yours. Go back to fifth grade and learn what hyperboles, colloquialisms, and metaphors are so you don’t miss peoples points completely and go on some futile little soapbox about some irrelevant red herring. Good luck kid
Also, Musk seems to be relying on not addressing global warming to accelerate his ambition of colonising Mars.
the only difference between a billionaire who believes in climate change and one who doesn’t is that one of them is gonna spend more on a sweet apocalypse bunker with gold plated slurpee machines. neither would do anything about it if it hurt their bottom line.
Musk will simply change his opinion. He’ll come up with some pseudoscientific wording while he does it, and his little minions will gobble it all up and call him a genius. Then they’ll start spewing some tired talking point with a Musky spin, and it’ll spread like the virus it is.
Musk believes in it, but has no interest in ameliorating it. His plan is ‘find a new planet’
Can people please stop saying “believe “ in climate change.
You either understand it or you don’t .
Oh don’t worry, Musk will see the light now that he’s found his one true god.
