  • The free breakfast is different, though. You’ve introduced it to the conversation and are leaning into it but it’s different than the post to which you made your original comment. The free lunch is not, unlike the vitamin water, a replacement for significant monetary compensation.

And no one has even said whether or not the person who took the picture took them or not, nor whether they would themselves. They are made because they’ve been, essentially, stolen from in broad daylight and are expected to be grateful for it.

Yea, I’m not that desperate, though. These worthless acts should be openly mocked for exactly what they are: management’s idea that we are stupid enough to actually be fooled by that shit.

It would be far more worth it to me to take the bottles and return them than give them any satisfaction and/or validation. They are worth so little to me that I don’t mind throwing them back and management should know that. These aren’t “treats”, they’re cheap replacements for significant moneyary compensation.

Free breakfast is certainly a little bigger than this, but it still doesn’t actually do anything to help anyone. It’s just another thing they can point to to pretend like they care while ignoring the only thing that will ever truly matter which is that they need to fucking pay us. I’ve had bosses before that pull that shit and then you ask for a raise that at least matches inflation and they try to tell you that “inflation doesn’t work that way.”

So if we’re talking “mindsets” I really don’t have much time for people that think shit like vitamin water instead of a bonus is a “treat” we need to be grateful for. I never did like the taste of boot.

  • Hell, even in FPTP in countries like Canada with a third, equally viable party not voting for what you want is a bit of a waste. If you don’t show your support then the next election has the chance to go even deeper into the fake two-party system.

It’s your voice. In many ways it’s your only voice and there is no nuance so you must be clear.

  • I’m sorry, bud, that sounds awful.

I’m in the middle of my third month unemployed now. Sent out a bunch of applications and had some HR interviews but man, no one wants to pay even what I was previously making let along anything liveable.

One place was a referral and they liked me a lot but, only slightly paraphrased, “didn’t want to start our partnership on the wrong foot by offering too low a salary”. Like bro you’ve already insulted me just give me the fucking offer and let me decide. Another place got to the second interview and it all went great and then I was ghosted and no one answered my follow-up email.

Every job I see wants me to work on-site 2hrs away from the city in some small town for pennies. And that’s only if I’m lucky enough to see the salary! The rest hide them so people who are more desperate than I am low-ball themselves in order to not scare away potential jobs. It’s so completely fucked up.

Not a single damn company will even acknowledge that inflation is real so I cannot afford to take lower pay just to watch it get worse every single year. The answer to every single one of our fucking problems all the way down to toxic masculinity I feel can definitely or at least probably be answered by PAYING EMPLOYEES PROPERLY SO THEY AREN’T CONSTANTLY IN FIGHT MODE. I see things like “how to increase the productivity of your workforce!” and just think pay them and give them the basic respect they deserve as living, breathing human beings and they’ll happily do a lot for you.

Companies are entitled. They clearly can’t afford to exist if they can’t pay their employees but instead of shutting down with grace they tell us it’s our fault. It’s fucking insane.

It probably does, but I’m just not sure for how long. It’s a lot of force placed in very awkward places. You would need high tolerances so the slop won’t be magnified towards the other end and the leverage would also mean that any imperfection(easy to pick up since the mechanism in unshieldable and on the rim) would very quickly reduce those tolerances to a cheap joke.

Very cool idea and definitely worth trying for the lols but anyone who thinks this would be practical longterm probably doesn’t deserve the dispoable income required to purchase it.

  • That would include, for many of the party’s young supporters, explicit backing of “remigration” of Germans with immigrant roots who “fail to integrate”. News in January that top AfD officials had discussed such a proposal prompted widespread outrage and sent tens of thousands of Germans on to the streets in protest.

However, among many AfD voters, the notion has become an unabashed talking point. “Not everyone should have to go but at least the criminals, like in Mannheim – this can’t go on,” said Konstantin, 17, referring to the killing of a police officer in the western city just days before the election, allegedly by an Afghan asylum seeker with a jihadist motive.

Oh for fuck’s sake are we doing this bullshit again?! C’MON, GERMANY, GET IT TOGETHER.

  • And that’s exactly it. Capitalism rewards having money and how you get it isn’t important. It doesn’t breed technological innovation but it sure as shit pumps out new, fun ways to spew propoganda and avoid laws! And oh boy is paying employees well not even close to a metric by which to measure a successful company.

It’s the least people clever in the room having the volume to make sure that no one smarter than them can speak and then claiming they’re geniuses when only their idea gets through.

  • Also as much as we can argue over certain shades of blue-green being more blue or more green the Conservatives are out here trying to tell us that pure red should also be included in the discussion. We have so many good options with their own pros and cons and they’re just going for the objectively bad stuff.

Like, none of their financial policy works. The math doesn’t even add up at surface level. From buck-a-beer, to giving people a refund for plate renewals that ultimately is nothing, to deliberately misrepresenting how the carbon tax works none of it works with even the slightest bit of questioning. They just can’t stop failing no matter how many times real academics and qualified activist groups plead with them to listen.

It’s almost like making things better for the vast majority of people isn’t their goal…

  • Personally I’m excited that we kinda are hitting the reset button. It absolutely isn’t a guarantee but it’s closer than it’s ever been to working.

Capitalism is the attempt to keep feudalism going and it’s collapsing in on itself. With the speed that technology now moves within a person’s lifetime we can see how the usual tricks just don’t work as well. We’ve also got baseline regulations keeping things like lead out of the air and giving at least some basic human rights to people who historically would be kicked around by even the better societies. Rightwing parties are stronger and meaner because they’re afraid but their bases shrink even with the normally unifying nationalist rhetoric being pushed. Fuck even Israel is finally being told off and Hamas is being treated far closer to rebels than terrorists which, considering all the precedent set, is pretty extra wild!

We are moving forward. It doesn’t mean that there aren’t people fighting to hold us back but it’s happening anyway and will continue to happen so long as we keep standing up for ourselves.
