zout@fedia.ioto Science@mander.xyz•Study finds that fast walking can reduce lung cancer risk by 50%: A simple health indicator for cancer prevention0·2 days agoIs it because people who walk faster tend to have less risk for developing lung cancer, or the other way around? Correlation does not mean causation, and from the article I find that walking speed is a marker for the risk of lung cancer, not “you should walk faster to prevent lung cancer”.
Yup, but it’s not felt like, it’s how much time really passed for you.
Another one I’ve always liked; suppose two people (or space ships, whatever) are together in the empty space between galaxies. One of you gets a boost from an external actor, and travels 10 lightyears away at the speed of light. After that, the other one gets the same boost and joins the first. So for both, ten years have passed. But, without an external reference, there is no way to know which one moved first.
If you could travel at the speed of light, the only tim it would take you is the time spent speedign up and slowing down. Traveling at the speed of light stops the time for you.
Peasant food is often the best food in any country imo.

I’d be more hesitant if someone has a lot of 1,5 - 2 year stints, than something like 3 years - 5 years - 5 months. As long as it’s recent, I wouldn’t list a 5 month job I had 10 years ago unless it was really relevant for the job I’m applying for.
Good to hear, especially the HBP and HC being treated. My previous doctor just shrugged off my HBC at the time (2010-ish), but it should have been treated in hindsight.
Hello fellow 49-er! Just a fyi, if this just started out of the blue one day, get your heart checked. I had the same for about a year, but after a heart attack early last year I can sleep trough the night again. I still wake up occasionally to piss, but not every night anymore.
Just fyi, when you type “even Roger Moore” you make it sound like he was normally into younger women. In reality he found it disgusting to be cast against girls who were “young enough to be his grand daughters”.

Why not use the shims designed for this instead of the tip of a screwdriver?
It’s actually five! https://etc.usf.edu/clipart/69300/69342/69342_class_homology.htm
TIL I’d like the mountains.

zout@fedia.ioto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What stereotypes about your country do you actually happen to fit?0·24 days agoI like cheese, and I can be very direct. I also dislike boasting.
Local: not too happy, a populist party holds the majority and they’re only looking out for their own interest. Also generally our municipality tends to be too ambitious, pouring lots of money into stuff that doesn’t benefit the residents.
Country (the Netherlands): we had elections in november 2023, the (right-wing) cabinet was formed in july 2024, and it blew up in may 2025. New elections will be next month, and the right-wing Islamophobic Israel lover is leading the polls once again, even though they didn’t make good on any of their promises in their current reign. So really unhappy about that.
