There were a lot of Democrat voters (or maybe just a few very loud ones idk) that blamed the rise of Donald Trump 2: Judgement Day on liberals and leftists that did not vote for Harris. Their logic, iiuc, was that everyone should vote for Harris even if they think it’s wrong, because the alternative is worse. How are those people feeling about the government shutdown? Should the Democrats in the government have voted for the Republican proposed budget, just to keep the government running? Now there will be tens of thousands of government employees that will not get paid, which would not have happened had the budget passed and the government remained open. What would have been the correct course of action for the Democrats in the government?

Most of the govt is shut down, but the White House Ballroom is still being built, so at least there’s that.

I vote Democrat. I’m absolutely pissed about the shutdown. I don’t know what Democrats should do, our President is a convicted felon. Law and decorum have been thrown out the window awhile ago.

If I take the question at face value, I don’t see it being dishonest. Perhaps you are reading into some subutle cue that I’m not.

Our government is a rogue gallery of grifters, liars, and cheats. I’m pissed at everything.

I am not a democrat; but I feel like they did not communicate well with their base. And their messages are blocked by a lot of the mainstream press. This double hurdle means they are essentially voiceless to many.

So most people are confused about it all. I have read on lemmy why. People I know will have their health care stopped if the democrats cave on this.

I thoroughly expect them to give up once they milk the donations for all it’s worth

Letting the government shut down is literally the only point of leverage the Dems have. This is them actually doing something for the first time in almost a year of Trump 2.0.

The alternative is just letting all the cuts the want to make in this budget go through uncontested in a complicit abdication to the fascist, patently betraying their constituency (even more than they already largely have).

I’m a liberal. I’d prefer the government be functional and running. But these days the government is pretty dysfunctional even when not shut down, so I guess as shutdowns go… In any case, I place all blame for the dysfunction and the shutdown on conservatives, and anyone who voted for them. There is no correct course for dems in the government when they’re in the minority to a party that doesn’t operate in good faith; I’m fine with them either playing ball or not as they think is best in the circumstances.
