So yeah, my life is a pile of, well you can guess. Its not that the job is hard, nor is it overwhelming for me, however my life is crap and my mental state is very dark, so I do not believe I can mod this community the way it should be run. Again, there is not a lot of work to do, and the admin team seems to be on top of it much more then I am, so I think we should bring one other person into the team, then I can leave without feeling like I’m abandoning the community. So my idea is to take some names of folks who are willing to mod, and then I put it to a vote, the top one or two get the job

Take a step back man, you gotta look out for number 1. You aren’t abandoning anything or anybody. Being connected like this is great in some ways, and in some other ways it’s literally the worst thing that’s ever happened to the human race. That isn’t on your shoulders, and its quite an admirable thing to say you know what, I need a break. Not many other people have the courage to do so.

I’m sure you’ll find some happiness and some colour on the other side bro, here’s to you finding it 🤜🏼

Put your arm behind you, on your back, and pretend that someone is pushing it up…

Then say it! Otherwise it’s not going to stop…

    It being Uncle.

And I hope your days get better soon 👍

Take care man! Take a step back, do what you have to do to decompress a little. I wish you all the best with whatever life is throwing at you. Don’t give up and hang in there!

Hmm… most mods seem to thrive off of being mentally unstable. Thank you for your hard work and always remember to take care of yourself first!

Most other moderators I met or talked with in person from Reddit were raging alcoholics, myself included. The subs I was involved with had a community that was… eh… very unique. (Reptile owners themselves tend to be a special breed, to say the least.)

that’s awesome man! My girlfriend bought my son a leopard gecko back in 2018 and so that means I’ve been taking care of it ever since. Even started breeding dubia roaches for it (or whatever they’re called) back in 2020. All natural ecosystem with Rollie pollies and all that good stuff. Damn lizard barely ever comes out of its cave though but it’s always let us hold it and has never amputated its tail

Reptiles are interesting creatures, for sure. (I still have a female chameleon and bearded dragon. My male cham died of old age last year.) I never got into breeding feeders, but that is a really good route to avoid the excessive supplementation that is super common.

I was a mod of /r/chameleons and still technically the owner of /r/chameleonholdingstuff, but I haven’t been on Reddit for a long while. Strangely enough, some mods tried to pull me back into the fold a few months ago, but Reddit is just a shit show and I don’t want any part of it. The /r/reptiles mods seemed a little more on the sane side though.

Being a mod seems like a huge drag, I don’t blame you. For what it’s worth I hope stepping back can be a weight off your shoulders.

Mental health is super important so do what you need to do and find a good headspace. Modding is a good time suck when you aren’t busy but is a serious drain when other things are more important in life.

When I was in a much darker place, I would tend to made decisions that would isolate me from everyone and everything else. In some ways that is nice but in other ways… not so much. If you believe your decision is with specific purpose, awesome. If this decision is more of a trend across your life, try and only make positive decisions. (This is just something I share when people express decisions in the context that you used.)

Wishing you the best! Be happy and stay healthy, friend.
