In 2001 when The US authorized use of force on Al-Qaeda that, along with The 1973 war powers resolution gave the president (as in the position of president, not just Bush) unlimited ability to bomb anyone loosely associated with Al-Qaeda in perpetuity.

It’s what allowed Bush, then Obama, then Trump, and then Biden, and now Trump again, to use the military as they see fit for performing military operations against basically any state and group in the middle east.

This is sadly likely the least impeachable thing he’s done in office.

It’s such a dog and pony show. Seems like every week there’s new “grounds for impeachment” or “motion for impeachment has been introduced” which leads to jack all. Conservatives have shown that they don’t give a fuck, they’re going to keep trucking ahead because they KNOW no one will stop them. Meanwhile Democrats just keep playing by the rules in hopes someone will finally acknowledge said rules and act on them.

And don’t pretend the American people are any better. Sure the No Kings protests were fantastic but that was ONE day. In any other country on this planet it wouldn’t have ended, they’d still be protesting to this day and for the foreseeable future. The Republicans essentially said “let the babies have their bottles” for ONE day.

You have a literal SS going around and gathering up anyone and everyone they deem a threat to the country, you have the military in blue states and cities ready to knock skulls together, and now you have ANOTHER war in the middle east where ALL the terror cells will come out of the woodwork again to strike back. and yet the US people can muster ONE day out of their lives, a Saturday no less, to protest. You guys need to be on the streets 24/7. And to those saying “well I have a job, I have bills to pay, I have medical insurance from said job” yeah ok bud, you think any of those things are going to be there for you this time next year?

The US authorized use of force on Al-Qaeda

Is that even needed? The War Powers Act

requires the president to notify Congress within 48 hours of committing armed forces to military action and forbids armed forces from remaining for more than 60 days, with a further 30-day withdrawal period, without congressional authorization for use of military force (AUMF) or a declaration of war by the United States

Congress can still be notified, and 60 days haven’t elapsed.

Edit: Nevermind. I now see unless war is declared, the president requires specific statutory authorization or a national emergency created by attack upon the United States, its territories or possessions, or its armed forces.
