We’ll go the way of the Roman Empire except our west half might keep operating as a new empire with California at the head. Imagine, our descendants squatting in the ruins of our empire.

No one knows the future so I think this kind of speculation is a bit pointless. Also, there can be many different kinds of collapse that look very different.

I don’t think the US is going to transition into some kind of mad max scenario or glorious people’s republic any time soon, and maybe not ever. It may suffer some serious hardships in the coming decades due to eroding democratic values and the unfolding climate emergency. These hardships could lead to substantial changes in economics or governance but probably not what people imagine in terms of collapse.

    What does “collapse” mean exactly?
Are we talking about the end of the Republic? Because that happened to Rome and it continued to exist for another 1400 years as an empire.

The British empire is more or less dissolved at this point too but it continues to exist as a nation.

It didn’t survive the 70s economic crises but it’s hard to tell what stage of collapse you’re seeing. It could take a really long time regardless.

There are decades when nothing happens; and there are weeks when decades happen. - George Galloway

If you mean the rise of serfdom and slavery under an oligarchy instead of an economically enlightened republic, I’d say it already happened.

I’m afraid that if international tensions continue to rise, the Great Orange One will side with those who he views as the most powerful. If Russia, Israel, China, and North Korea create an alliance, there’s a good chance that Trump will want to be on THAT team, and we will enter WW3 as the “Bad guys”.

We’ll deserve whatever we get, and it will not be good.
