  • The best part is that if memory serves right there’s another tablet that sheds light on the fact Nanni owed money to Ea-nasir. The reason Ea-Nasir sold Nanni shitty copper was because he was offloading shit goods onto someone he was probably going to take to court anyways. We know about all of this because a copper merchant several millenia ago did the equivalent of saving texts for legal reasons.

  • It would’ve been madness in that region at that time. The Romans were writing entire books on natural history and that’s not even getting into something like the lost works on the Etruscan civilization. Recording things in that way fell out of favor with the Jewish people at that time due to centuries of rather brutal occupation requiring a certain level of obfuscation. Though I will say that objectivism wasn’t a concept at that point, the Garlic Wars is as much an account as it is propaganda by Caesar.

  • It also doesn’t help that Lovecraft was at the tail end of an old style of writing while in many ways being a forerunner of a newer style. Makes his works kinda clunky if that makes sense, like I get the same feeling from Mark Twain for example. So the tedium probably comes from being not quite old not quite modern where it just ends up awkward, also tack on the fact he was revolutionizing suspense in a lot of ways and yeah… Not fun.

  • Just gonna add to your point but with a slightly different factor. Fanfiction, the Harry Potter fandom had a massive chunk that was almost entirely devoted to fanfiction from smut to viscous deconstruction it existed. This means that folks may have legit grown to respect fanfiction Slytherin and to a degree forgotten about the book/movie version because they were exposed to an entirely different interpretation.

Also for those who don’t believe me go to A03, Fanfiction dot net, or fuck even space battle forums and look at the sheer numbers. It’s right fucken absurd to a degree, ain’t judging I’m a bitch for star wars fanfics but still it’s easy to forget just how big that section of the Harry Potter fandom was.

  • Not only did they homogenize but they also became bastardized version of their specific branches while they were at it, with maybe the exception of the Mormons but they’ve always been shit. Historically a lot of these Christian sects were more than capable of handling non belief since they would just leverage culture and economics to maintain relevance, think like how John Brown while a complete zealot was more than willing to work with folks who he considered quite questionable since all are sinners but also kill all slavers. While this could be abusive there were also plenty of situations where the individual priests were closer to community leaders than anything else, hell one of my ancestors went to church where they had a Scottish protestant, a Irish Catholic, and Swiss Jew as the priests they only tried to stab each other over politics.

But well as a lot of things go they sold their souls to the devil, which is to say they traded long term influence and stability for short term relevance and political power. They’ll burn out eventually since even in the Bible belt folks are getting sick of that shit, frankly it’s more a question of how much they’ll break before they’re too weak and irrelevant to do any more damage.
