Everybody, and every corporations jumped on the landlord bandwagon, rents went crazy. Now there is nowhere to go, most small cool places, with live music, or a kitschy theme, have either closed or have become too expensive.
This is bad. At least in the 1990s when the economy was hard, someone could afford to rent out a small place and make a fun bar.

What Canada really needs is a massive drone program. Drones from the size of a 747 to the size of a dime, and everything inbetween. The entire Russia-Ukraine war is a drone war.

Making Amazon pay its workers would greatly level the playing field so Canada Post can compete again.

…or at the very minimum crack down on the ‘independent contractor’ nonsense. Make Amazon pay for UI, vacation, healthcare, car insurance, for all its delivery drivers. Our politicians allow too many scams, and it hurts everyone.
In Ontario we’ve had a proliferation of for profit career colleges. The student visa is used to get into Canada, granted by one of the for profit degree mills. But in reality they are schemes by people looking to work in Canada, that couldn’t get a proper work visa.

I’m a lefty, but not partisan. This nonsense has been happening at a Federal level for years (immigration and colleges are federal), the Liberals have been in power since 2015. So this is the LIberal’s fault. They’ve recently put a cap on International students, that helped, but too little too late.
Years of fake colleges bringing in cheap ‘independent contractors’, undermining Canada Post. This is 100% on the Liberals, allowing fake Canadian colleges to exist. Allowing these jobs to be classified as independent. Everyone knows the scam, it happened under the Liberals. Shame.

I barely think Trump will be remembered. In 600 years we’ll have a completely different economic/political system. I can’t image our quaint ideas of ‘nations’ lasting much longer. This economic/political system was a flash in the pan from just after the Napoleonic wars till about now. I’m not sure what will come soon, but we’ve been stuck with an antiquated system now for over 70years.

Yes fireplaces add to pollution, the two times a year a person actually uses there fireplace isn’t overly concerning though.
Get to the real culprit, and ban bunker fuel on ships. Cargo ships use used motor oil for fuel, that they have to boil just so it’ll flow.
$1500 isn’t enough to cover a quarter of the cost of a heat pump.

That’s a nice looking house. I hope that it doesn’t get torn down. We can build density, and keep cool old houses like this. It’s not one or the other.

Bowling isn’t a good example because it isn’t popular anymore, but I’ll use it as an example anyway. If there aren’t a core group of people that can consistently pay to play, the bowling alley goes bankrupt. That hurts the people that, because of a financial constraints, may have gone only occasionally. Even if there are a handful of ultra-wealthy people in a community that can go whenever then want, there are too few of them to really sustain a bowling alley, as they won’t be going everyday.
