Authoritarianism is not tied to political ideology. Authoritarianism takes advantage of whatever the political environment is. To think one environment doesn’t allow for authoritarianism while the other does is extremely naive. This isn’t a “both sides” argument, this is an argument that you incorrectly associate authoritarianism with only capitalism.

Those aren’t mutually exclusive to define authoritarianism. I wouldn’t expect someone from hexbear to come with a good faith debate though.

A government ordering the killing of any group (political, ethnic, etc) abandoning due process for the individuals is authoritarian.

I hope/choose to believe that the reason we’re here is that those leading the charge in our justice system knew they not only had to have an airtight case, but it also had to slowly tear him down and erode his support.

There are plenty of leaders throughout history who were exiled, deposed, or voted out only to come back stronger than ever. By taking an extremely methodical approach to all of the legal challenges against Trump, they’ve forced him to spend the majority of his time, energy, and money on those battles.

Can you fault them though? Everywhere you turn you’re being asked to tip or donate. Influencers and corporations constantly astroturf social media. The rise of LLMs has made it necessary to question every interaction that occurs virtually.

Honestly, I worry for the people who aren’t cynical and how they’re going to be deceived, manipulated, or straight up scammed.
