0·10 months agoNo better time than the present to switch to OpenStreetMap

For Android, I use OsmAnd~ which uses OpenStreetMap data and allows you to download maps to calculate routes offline, something Google Maps couldn’t do for routes by foot and by bike last time I tried.
It also has better coverage for some small paths in natural areas like forests. Give it a try!

Privacy@lemmy.ml•[Guide] 🔏 Digitally sign and send encrypted emails with S/MIMEEnglish
0·11 months ago@[email protected] Hey, I’m late but I may have found something you like! It’s not for S/MIME but for OpenPGP keys, another method of email signing and encryption which does not require the certification by an authority (Actalis)
It’s a website to list all OpenPGP public keys, and I know thunderbird (for desktop at least) automatically looks there whenever you write an email to an address to see if it has a public key.
As far as I understand, there are some advantages and disadvantages on OpenPGP, mainly :
- Actalis generates your private key, so if you follow the S/MIME tutorial they’ll be able to decrypt your messages. With OpenPGP it’s done locally on your computer so you don’t need to send your private key to anyone.
- However, there is no way to easily revocate an OpenPGP key, so if yours leak, you can’t just go on your Actalis dashboard and revocate it.
It’s up to you to pick a method based on your needs!

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Just made a Firefox add-on that autoselects your last used language of your Lemmy posts to automatically select it again next time.Français
0·1 year agoThe best thing I can think of is to contribute to the Lemmy front-end itself, but since I’m not familiar with the framework they use, and how the project is structured, I don’t think I’ll be able to do it for the forseeqble future. Feel free to open an issue about this on their GitHub however!

0·1 year agoWell, it seems like it’s going to be a little more tricky. There’s no ID to detect the post sorting selection menu. For the language select, I could look for elements containing the ID
language-selectbut it does not seem to be possible for post sorting. The best thing I could think of is to add
?sort=Old,?sort=Newto the URL but it does not seem to affect the sorting unless the button is actually clicked or the page fully reloads. If I could consistently select the elements that allow for filtering (and be careful that it doesn’t conflict with other types of filtering on other pages), I could do it, but right now I don’t see a solution.

0·1 year agoUpdate! Now should work with any language select in Lemmy, not just post creation!
Add-on even lighter than before! Let’s save those bytes~
Wait a few hours for Mozilla to approve it then update to v1.1, or get it now from GitHub releases!

0·1 year agoThank you for your feedback, I’ve switched to the GPL V3 license
Strange, I’ve had a video that crashed newpipe every time but now it seems to play fine. Maybe because it was a “Coming soon” video? Anyways it seems like it works fine now, I also had a bug where leaving the app would crash the app instead of doing background play but I also can’t get it to occur again. I’ll edit my original comment.
Well, thanks for sharing! The more options the better!
For everyone on Android, you can just patch the youtube app using ReVanced, which will remove ads, add sponsorblock, allow you to hide shorts and the “People also watched” sections. It can be pretty tricky to patch if you don’t know what you’re doing so feel free to tell me if you run into any issues.
If you don’t care about the algorithm and your feed, you can get the third-party client NewPipe, it’s FOSS
but sometimes crashes while reading some videosIt does not seem to crash anymore, so good thing!Pick one!

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•With all the articles about Microsoft/Windows integrating AI into "x" software and "y" software, do I need to do more to disable all AI existence off my PC?Français
0·1 year agoAs someone in Europe,
- I still have AI in paint (to create images), but I think it’s opt-in
- I don’t have Copilot, but I think it’s integrated to Microsoft Edge (but you can uninstall it)
- I still have onedrive by default, but you can also uninstall it
- I don’t have recall (or maybe I do but it’s disabled, either way I can’t open it)
- Microsoft still pushes you super hard to use an account
So here’s what to expect if you manage to change your region. I have no idea on how to do that however.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•[Guide] 🔏 Digitally sign and send encrypted emails with S/MIMEEnglish
0·11 months agoI don’t think it’s possible to do that, but I have no experience on this since I don’t use my own email server so I could very well be wrong.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•[Guide] 🔏 Digitally sign and send encrypted emails with S/MIMEFrançais
0·1 year agoSo as I understand :
- Actalis is a trusted authority among others but is the only one to issue free S/MIME certificates that I found. You need to use a trusted authority to make the signature, or else your email client will say “Cannot verify signature authenticity” and show a red badge. This explains it better
- When you sign your email, you include your public key in the signature. So just sign every email (usually an option in your client) to let anyone you email have your public key. I don’t really understand why you would need to change stuff in the email server.

Replying with this account because it won’t seem to federate the post : The command sadly outputs nothing.
