aesthelete@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•‘Basically impossible to get them back’: Russia’s mass abduction of Ukrainian children is a war crime, say expertsEnglish7·10 days agoYet another thing to throw on the giant pile of shit nobody is going to do anything about ever.
I used to run Windows on an esata drive that I would only power up occasionally in order to game, and it still somehow – and I don’t remember how – managed to ruin my computer.
Love is love
I’m not indicating that narcissism and lack of empathy are exclusively American things, but instead that it’s a pervasive and near dominant mentality in America.
“Greed is good” is practically our country’s mantra. The golden rule here is whoever has the gold makes the rules (quite literally).
The US is number ONE…in bullshit.
If you’re a Trump-loving magat, then you only care about virtue signaling and performative bullshit when Hollywood celebrities, Democrats, and online socialists do it…and completely ignore that Trump-lovers and Trump himself love performative bullshit and solely prefer a different – crueler and more toxic – variety.
It’s an aesthetic land full of people who see nothing wrong with screwing over any number of others as long as it leads to fortune, fame, power, or the grand trifecta. Morals, values, and virtues have long since been thrown out as fictional concepts unworthy of any potentially damaging action to uphold or analysis over whether they were lost in any exchange.

I saw one that said I can manifest things! Must be true. They wrote a book about it after all!
aesthelete@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are the modern design trends you hate most?0·30 days agoI honestly think a lot of it is that they have to keep twiddling with shit to have something to do.
These pieces of garbage have come across my desk as “requirements” too because they get copied and pasted from other “best of breed” apps from the web.
Most of the designers I’ve encountered in my day to day work love nothing better than to copy from other apps rather than actually think for fifteen seconds about how to design something.
aesthelete@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are the modern design trends you hate most?0·30 days agoLike why is a fucking table now a bunch of divs?
I feel like I was there at the genesis of this one. Originally, people used tables for layout because there was nothing else. Dreamweaver and similar wysiwyg editors that code-o-phobes used those days produced table hellish markup that looked reasonable to people on screens with fixed resolutions, but was absolutely abysmal as far as legibility and maintenance.
Then, over time, people righteously hated that and called it an anti-pattern. The original people that wanted semantic layouts and championed CSS in the early days had nuance, but the kiddos learning from them did not. So they thought it was “tables bad!” and they rushed off to please their senior devs by putting tabular data into complicated bullshit elements that were already semantically correct as tables.

Those front loading washers everyone seems to adore almost universally require the installation of water hammer arrestors or it’s bye bye pipes.

meme
It’s not new and also nobody calls it “water based cooking” because that’s stupid.
Similarly, the packaging change they made to the rotisserie chicken means me never eating that heated plastic bag garbage ever again.
It was plastic before but it was at least a tray and a covering. So the plastic at least seemed more durable and not all of it was touching the bird. Now it’s just a shitty plastic bag being warmed under a light. Disgusting.
