That last bit neatly illustrates why it was that, in the face of the utter failure of both of the establishment hacks who were set to get the nominations in 2016, and the support in both parties for populists, the GOP went along with their populist while the DNC sabotaged theirs.

The GOP accurately saw Trump as an entirely unprincipled and wholly narcissistic idiot who could be manipulated into serving their interests, while the DNC equally accurately saw Sanders as a man of principles and determination who could not be manipulated into serving theirs.

Israel self-evidently, by definition, has no legitimate jurisdiction over Palestinian land, and can’t “approve” anything regarding it.

I grow more convinced every day that if there are future historians, they’re going to dub our current age something like “the Lunatic Age” - the regrettable and inexplicable period in human history during which, for no discernible reason from the point of view of a future civilization, in spite of worldwide communication and thus the full awareness of the extent of it, people largely stood idly by in the face of, and in all too many cases actually supported, the profound and undeniable evil of governments, politicians and business leaders.

Sorry - I should’ve made that more clear. I meant the first sentence of your summation of what I said - the part I quoted. It went wrong immediately because you started with the presumption of an already toxic man doing something toxic, for which he’s then condemned. But I was talking about young people - people who haven’t established an adult personality yet - who are still feeling their way through life, trying to figure out who and what they want to be.

And to your edit - there’s nothing I value more in a discussion/debate than honesty,cand not just the surface homesty of telling the truth as one sees it, but the deeper and much more rare intellectual honesty of actually considering what the other person has said, rather than just rejecting it out of hand. The thing is that the Republicans want to reject the whole concept of war crimes, at least as it might be applied to white judaeo-christian men and/or anyone who’s doing “god’s work” of eliminating non-white “human animals.” They revel in Bibi’s war crimes - to them, it’s just proof of his “determination” and his “resolve.” And they long for (and are actively working toward) a world in which they’ll be free to do the same.

Well… that and thinking of all of those dead brown people makes their tiny little peens hard, which makes them especially eager to get Bibi in the room with them, so they can slobber all over his knob in person.

It’s literally right there, just a couple of posts up from this one. There’s no excuse for misrepresenting it.

I didn’t stipulate “young” men by accident - that’s the central point. I’m not talking about adults who have already developed a set of behaviors (which makes your first sentence entirely and completely wrong). I’m talking about young people - people who are lost and confused and casting about for guidance, as virtually all young people are (and not coincidentally, that’s also what the linked article is talking about).

And ironically enough, you actually provide an example of the problem insofar as you don’t even acknowledge the distinction - you just lump them in with overtly misogynistic and toxic adults and condemn them each and all. You not only refuse to provide them with the guidance they want and need, but bristle self-righteously at the very thought that there might be any expectation that you should.

And meanwhile, people like Jordan Peterson and Andrew Tate go out of their way to recognize them and cultivate them. And it works not least because you’ve already written them off.

Which is pretty much exactly my point, and the point of the linked article. We need to do more than simply assume that young men are automatically misogynists and therefore condemn them. We need to provide them with something positive - an actual path that they can follow that leads to a better way of living. They’re right there, right now - at the crossroads in their lives, wondering how they should go about growing into adults, and Jordan Peterson and Andrew Tate and their ilk are right there, right now, telling them a bunch of toxic bullshit.

And meanwhile, what are we offering them? Just what you said here - the presumption that they’re already toxic, and a bland command to knock it the fuck off.

And in turn, I don’t understand this comment. You seem to be saying that young people should just figure things out for themselves, and asking why it should be someone else’s responsibility to provide them with guidance.

This has been what’s happened for the last 20 years or so:

So, entirely predictably, they’ve fucked off. Right into the welcoming embrace of the toxically masculine and patriarchal right.

Even “the pot calling the kettle black” isn’t enough to sum this up.

In a somewhat metaphorical but nonetheless very real sense - most politics is effectively snake oil.

There’s a set of people who exhibit a particular combination of mental illness and natural charisma, such that they feel an irrational urge to impose their wills on others, a lack of the necessary empathy to recognize the harm they do and the personal appeal necessary to convince others to let them do it.

There’s another set of people who feel an irrational sense of helplessness - who want to turn control of their lives and their decisions over to others, so they can just go along with a preordained set of values and beliefs and choices rather expending effort on, and taking the risk of, making their own.

And just as in any more standard “snake oil” dynamic, the first group, exclusively for its own benefit, preys upon the weakness and hope of the second. Just as in any other such dynamic, the people of the first group make promises they have no intention of keeping ultimately just so that they can benefit, and the people of the second group continue, irratiomally, to believe those promises, even as all of the available evidence demonstrates that the promises are empty.

Candidates for public office should be required to undergo a mental health assessment as part of the process of getting on the ballot, and those who score beyond (above or below, as may be relevant) particular thresholds are barred from seeking office.

I sincerely believe that there’s no single thing we could do that would provide more benefit to the world than to get sociopaths and narcissists and megalomaniacs out of positions of power. Each and every one of the most notable and contentious politicians in the world today is, if you just take a step back and look at them honestly, blatantly profoundly mentally ill. Enough is enough.

That just says to me that no near future Monster Hunter game is going to be worth playing, since that focus just means that gameplay and story are going to be sacrificed in favor of graphics and gimmicks.

Who said anything about the “owner class?”

The oppression I’m talking about is that which the “vanguard party” (the new owner class) will direct against those of the people who don’t submit to their claimed authority.

“People’s Army” = the violent thugs in the employ of the new state, to replace the violent thugs in the employ of the old one.

“Support of the Proletariat” = the alternating oppression and indoctrination of the people will continue, under new management.

And all in support of:

“Vanguard Party” = the new ruling class.

At this point, I’m assuming that that was actually counted as one of his qualifications - that back when they were vetting nominees, he got high marks in bribability.

In fact, I don’t think there’s a single person on the entire planet who doesn’t make that exact choice, with the only differences between individuals being which things go in which categories. And, I guess, how aware they are of the fact that that’s what they do.

Not all humans inherently deserve rights just because they are human.

And you’re immediately wrong.

The exact thing that distinguishes rights is that they’re universally held.

If they can be granted or withheld, then they’re not rights - they’re privileges.

Nothing is stopping them from doing it, and the only reason it might not be already happening is the possibility that nobody has cared enough to bother yet.

And by design nothing much can be done about it. That’s the nature of a decentralized platform - it’s explicitly set up to share content, and that’s what it does, by default. And there is no central authority that can control access to the fediverse as a whole. And that’s pretty much that.

And personally, I don’t care. I’ve never bought into the nonsensical idea that the stuff I post in a public forum is in any meaningful sense my property after I post it.
