  • Windows forced me to update to a version that has advertisement in it.

God! Tell me about it! I by mistake clicked on Upgrade to Windows 11 (I wasn’t paying attention and Microsoft categorised it in bad faith) And voila, it’s downloading Windows 11 now (I have paused it for 14 days) But how can I make sure that the download is cancelled, any ideas?

  • But it’s everything. The intrusion, the quasi monopoly, the shitty anti, consumer choices, all of it.

Since either Linux or win 7 do almost everything I need, I’ll never use anything higher than win 7

God YES! I am required to use Windows 10 or 11 rn, but I am keeping it “downgraded” as much as possible because bloated “Fat Man” won’t run well and the more features there are in a certain version of Microsoft, you seem to be giving it more control over your life. That “intrusion, the quasi monopoly, the shitty anti, consumer choices” hit hard tho!

  • bloat the system more and more and more with every update.

Kinda why I call Windows the “Fat Man”

Of course, when you grow up on Windows, Linux has a learning curve. It’s different OS.

tbch, it’s not that. I haven’t used Windows in 7 years, never touched it, but gotta admit, the new Windows 11 is pretty cool

  • So by the time I got a reliable x86 laptop in hand, Linux felt more normal to me than Win 8.

Know and respect this feeling, I am using MX Linux and have a very customized panel, settings and shortcuts. It’s home, even if it were to be wiped out, I would still put in all the effort to reinstall it.

But, I gotta admit, when Windows works as intended, it’s good for being productive and I technically should be learning how to use Windows properly as my work requires me to :')

  • such as how much of the world is making sacrifices to stop buying gas from Russia but India’s just undermining their good intentions for profit

I might disagree with most things this government does, but I can’t deny the fact that’s something overwhelmingly popular with Indians (including me)

We literally have people suffering from malnutrition in this country, people who still die of hunger, you can’t expect us to not buy cheap oil from Russia. Sorry, we will buy oil from everyplace where it is cheap, we can alleviate suffering of our own people by money and we will try to do it as best as we can.

  • I know there is innovation but nothing major springs to mind

There is NO INNOVATION. There are no discoveries happening here. R&D budget and the budget for education is peanuts, there isn’t much innovation happening in India and the innovation that does happen, happens in handful of universities by students who could not afford to move out to a better country which would fund their research.

  • a product of John Oliver.

that guy is almost always biased as hell and lies to make people he disagrees with seem bad, but damn, he went wayyy to easy on modi even though he dislikes Modi! Idk why!?. He attributed things to modi which weren’t his own (like rations and the economic progress) and generally was misinformed. Terrible research team! I could have given him better points! and his delivery was subpar! The last Modi episode was better, maybe he was trying to gain a wider audience in India as otherwise we would have banned the show (We love Free speech here in India)

  • I wonder in what ways does India believe they are the world leader of anything?

They see the outliers in this system and think that is the norm. i.e., Out of 1.4 billion people, there must be many people who are extremely successful abroad (and are very famous) and Indians think that is the norm and the fact that there are some so many successful people abroad shows that our culture is superior. It really makes sense if you stop thinking about it lol.

And there are some random events happening in such a big country that if you are in an ecosystem of Indian uncles or you haven’t really grown up from metal age of 12, you begin to think the world revolves around us and we are a superpower.

  • Is this correct?

Yeah, pretty much. I am not sure what you mean by it isn’t the biggest democracy, it kinda is the biggest democracy, but people place way too much emphasis on it. People don’t seem to have a mind of their own, they act in groups and are very tribal, so it’s probably not the most effective democracy.

Probably most countries/cultures think this of themselves

being accepting of your own nationality is good, but I have a problem with people being too proud of shitty things. We are too ok with who we are as a country and that’s not conducive to progress.
