Seems like a concerted effort to sanction the regime, steal their currency in the global markets, and prevent them from buying food. As to the evangelicals, I forget they are about 25% of the Republican electorate, almost uniformly Republican very low numbers that vote otherwise, they have been making huge inroads in Latin America they’re up to 30% of the religious population down there now in places, also in roads into African countries, they have sponsored a lot of the anti-gay legislation like in Uganda or wherever.
