Austria and Switzerland have been around for more than 500 years longer than Germany. I’m sure more of these have had humans on exhibition to be gawked at like in fairs or circuses, but this is specifically about in a zoo.

Barabas [he/him]@hexbear.netto Comradeship // Freechat@lemmygrad.ml•I hate westernized and Anglo pronunciations of Slavic/Eastern European names (rant)English0·1 month agoAre you sure that they are pronouncing Japanese words correctly as it is? Because mispronunciation is a lot easier to pick up if you’re a native speaker. The way that Japanese is romanised is also catered to English pronounciations.
Anyway, a lot of Slavic names have a history of being pronounced a certain way. It is a bit like being the tedious guy that insists that Barcelona should be pronounced with a lisp or that you can’t pronounce the s in Paris. I don’t doubt that you could get droves of Germans in complaining that English people pronounce Adolf as Aedolff, Karl as Caerl, Luther as Loofah or Merkel as Murkul (4 Germans off the top of my head, there are many more). When it comes to Swedish names I’m shocked if it is pronounced anywhere close to correctly so it doesn’t even register to me.
70% of the US working population are full time workers.
30% of the working population are thus excluded, and they are likely all (with some extraordinary exceptions) below the median wage. Which means that 60% of below median wage workers are being excluded (or 51 million people), which is a significant amount compared to the top 1000 people in the above example. Doesn’t say so in the wikipedia article, but easy to tease out when they start weaseling with “fully employed” when a significant amount of the working population are not part time employed by choice.
Median numbers do look a lot better when you remove 60% of below median earning workers, who would have thought.

Also that it was a dying town with no jobs that is steadily spiraling downwards so people pick up drug/alcohol addictions to cope or move away meaning that housing is cheap. But if you want solitude it is pretty swell.

She would listen and is very non-judgemental but I’d rather shoulder it on my own. The only caveat to that is that she is proper anti-drugs.
Dad was a dickhead and he can RIP in piss.

Or is it that they weren’t required to swear fealty to Israel before entering?
Barabas [he/him]@hexbear.netto World News@lemmy.ml•Germany is now deporting pro-Palestine EU citizens. This is a chilling new stepEnglish0·3 months agoWhen supporting the existence of an explicit ethnonationalist state is mandated by law, maybe the law is wrong.

Someone you could trust your life with if need be?English0·3 months agoI don’t really consider rushing someone to a hospital as an especially high bar for genuinely good person. Seems more like the bar for not being a genuinely bad person. Not sure if that means that I’m positive or negative about humanity.

Most of the investigation is against the company and the ship in particular, not China as a whole. They need to look over their routines if nothing else.
It isn’t like nothing has happened, and China has been cooperating with the investigation.
Wasn’t solely because of who his dad was. If his dad was just a regular rich dude with political connections, maybe. If he was one of the thousands of black men currently incarcerated under the law that Biden championed himself, hell no.
Really, he should have just taught his son to do powdered cocaine instead, since that is a rich person drug and thus has a much lower penalty.

We just today had the poster child of the “new guard” of the democrats coming out and talking about how great it is that nothing happens now. While we are one year into a genocide. While we are further building the wall and enforcing all the border policies that she went down to the border to have a photo op crying at.
Do you think AOC will save anyone? She’ll just go back to brunch while the world burns.
Voting third party is ineffective no matter how you look at it, at least not in the Presidential election.
If you can’t see further than a single election cycle ahead I guess. Consistently voting for the “lesser evil” will only make the “lesser evil” more evil. If there is a voting bloc that is strong enough to apparently scupper the democrats maybe they should try to appeal to them in any way rather than court the people voting for the “greater evil”?

Or Wolfram Alpha? Or a speed camera? These are all able to read external inputs to produce an output. At which point does your line go, because the current technology is nowhere near where mine goes.
We are currently ruining the biosphere so that some people might earn a lot of money by being able to lay off workers. If you remove this integral part to what “AI” is and all other negative externalities of course it will look better, but not all of the externalities are tied to the capitalist mode of production. Economies and resource allocation would still be a thing without capitalism, it isn’t like everything magically becomes good.
Depends on the context of what I’m thinking about. I think that is the case for anyone that is truly fluent in more than one language.
