Levi’s is a brand where I noticed size differences, even with identical pants, where the only difference is country of manufacture

Maybe it’s your brand and source. I see sizes becoming less consistent, more brand specific. Men’s sizes used to be consistent but now it depends on brand.
- I get brands known for being over resized, because I need them and they’re more comfortable
- a lot of “normal” brands I have to size up, and ts still less comfortable
- others, notably cheap or souvenir t-shirts I might size up twice, or it may not be comfortable at any labelled size
However I’m taller than average which is part of it. For a cheap brand with no tall sizes, I might size up twice, it might even be hanging off me as oversized, yet way too short

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you have strong opinions about universal basic income?
0·2 days agoThat has problems too ….
- Do you need to work to get your income, because how else you filing income tax
- income taxes are once per year: what if you have financial disaster after April 15?
- there’s a needy segment of the population where filing tax forms is unlikely or impossible.

0·4 days agoCrazy. As someone whose job it is to automate, automating my job means getting more work. That’s kind of the definition of being more productive: by focusing on automation one person could do work that formerly took multiple people
I don’t believe it’s specifically forbidden, just that dolphins don’t have fins or scales. That includes a lot of things in the sea

Apple Watch specifically has a mode for when it’s turned off that shows you the time when you tap the screen
There’s a general thing throughout tech where off isn’t off. This is one of those cases where “off” is just a low power mode, but you can still turn it off for real. This is not specific to Apple Watch at all.
There’s some grains of truth in the rant
- too many devices don’t turn off by default
- voice assistants listen to everything by default and are very good at picking out voices
- and yes there was research that with a special setup researches were able to use WiFi to “see” through walls
But you can turn off always listening or otherwise remove voice assistants from your life. You can turn off devices. And you can gain perspective that researchers doing something clever doesn’t necessarily translate to every device doing it.
Be more afraid of the personal data you’re “willingly” giving away. From profiles to location to listening/watching reading content and times to opinions and associations

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Ok, honestly, is cast-iron really any better than a non-stick, stainless, copper (anything else?) pan?
0·6 days agoAnd that’s another advantage of cast iron for me: cost.
- For non-stick I spent more money for the coating to last longer and an anodized outside to reduce scratches and mars.
- For cast iron my brand of choice is similar or lower cost, yet more scratch resistant and a significantly increased expected life

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Ok, honestly, is cast-iron really any better than a non-stick, stainless, copper (anything else?) pan?
0·7 days agoCast iron is extremely forgiving of improper treatment. And even if it eventually rusts, you can fix it. I’ve been using cast iron as my primary skillets since pandemic. I know I don’t treat them like I should, but they’re not yet rusted, still have an easy to clean surface that food doesn’t stick to. I’ll probably have to reseason eventually but if that’s not until I’d normally have to replace non-stick, I’m way ahead without putting in any extra work
Edit: sure, standard three cast iron skillets, and cast iron Dutch oven. I also have a set of stainless pans, and some induction ready non-stick for company

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Ok, honestly, is cast-iron really any better than a non-stick, stainless, copper (anything else?) pan?
0·7 days agoMay be a little expensive but they sell batteries to run a home, usually in connection with solar but doesn’t have to be. You should be able to handle a power outage for a day or two (and after that is when it’s great have solar to recharge them).
For a house in town it’s likely expensive but you also are less likely to have long outages. For a rural house it may be cheaper than the alternative of propane

0·7 days agoReally not. See the lye comments.
I generally wash with dish soap and a chainmail scrubber, then dry with a paper towel. If I remember I might spread a tiny amount of oil.
Yeah I could do better but the point is I’ve done almost nothing to care for them in years.

4, because I work partly remote so there have been occasions where I have no reason to leave the house or see another person for four days. I’m introverted so it’s kind of nice, but it’s probably not healthy
Edit: and my dog is not mine: I share custody with my ex (it’s actually her dog) so that’s only half a week
