I mean if democracy is writing an X in to a box once every five years, then yes.
Personally I think democracy should be about more than that, but as one person alone it’s tough to know what to do about it.

I live near a village called St John’s Town of Dalry and no one says sinjin nor have I heard anyone’s name referred to that way.
I imagine it’d be the same as printing of a copy of the Mona Lisa and putting it up on your wall for your own viewing pleasure. Completely legal.
Where as printing it off and then charging other people to see it would be illegal.
It does make for a funny story, but yh, probably wouldn’t give it to the GF!
Yep, if I was homeless with no prospects, especially in winter, a prison would be looking pretty attractive.
I know it’s unrelated to the thread, but I’d personally never go to a country that doesn’t treat, women, gays, apostates etc as equals, I think these countries are absolutely terrible and I’m not fooled by them having “show cities” where they pretend that they’re not that way.
A country that still has a medieval mindset in the third millennium is not getting a penny from me.
Fair enough. If you were making the post in good faith and starting or continuing a discussion, it sounds like you shouldn’t have been banned.
I got a perma ban from r/worldnews for being a “covidiot”, I can’t remember exactly why, but I wasn’t saying COVID is a hoax, being antivax or telling people not to wear masks or anything else like that, I just had a point of view that was slightly off kilter from the echo chambers narrative. The post was on topic, I was being civil, making the argument in good faith and had written it well. I told the mod that banned me what I thought of them. Good riddance.
What for lol?
Seeing the same old predictable jokes and pun threads as top comments with thousands of upvotes in serious posts was one of my least favourite things about Reddit.
The circle jerk was truly shit.
Quick! Let’s shut the country down for a year, spend £250 billion on things that have no intrinsic value and then act surprised when we get a shit load of inflation and a cost of living crisis.
It’s not about the size of the number, it’s about presenting information in a way that the average reader can understand. The best way to do that is to present it in the way that they’re accustomed to and I don’t think I’ve ever seen scientific notation used to refer to a sum of money.
It’s great that you and I understand scientific notation, but it’s worthlesss when you’re trying to get the average person to understand what you’re writing if they don’t know it themselves.
To make myself clear, I’m not saying that scientific notation isn’t useful, I’m just saying that most people don’t understand it.
For extra credit, 74,500,000,000,000,000 aka seventy four quintillion, five hundred quadrillion.
Not really. Most people aren’t familiar with scientific or engineering notation. Writing £1,000,000, one million pounds or £1Million is a lot clearer than writing £1×10^6.
My cars odometer says 91,584, not 91.584×10^3
They’ve probably just never been in the correct head space to listen to it because they’ve been conditioned to listen to mind numbing pop chart shite.
What’s your favourite band?
UK taxpayer is now liable for Thames Water’s £12bn debt.
How the fuck did we end up with a system that allows so called “investors” to not just pick our pockets, but the pockets of people that haven’t even been born yet?
All this to allow Thames to survive for at least one year.
Thames needs to be allowed to fail and investors need to take the hit, not the bill payer.
I keep hearing about all the tankies here, but I’ve never actually encountered one.
I liked it. I’m not going to pretend it was the best TV media ever or anything like that, it was just a bit of harmless fun.
You’d think all the haters were forced to watch it against their will. We live in an age where you can watch anything you want whenever you want. I think some people just like a good moan.
I don’t think that liking the ideals of communism means that you want to bury all Putin related news or even that you support Putin at all. Russia hasn’t been communist for a very long time.
Why is this getting downvoted?
I mean, if my friends knew I was a huge fan of the band, were going and weren’t like, tickets are £50, do you want one? It would sting.
