Yeah I’ve seen this before. The well known one doesn’t hold a flag to what this man was really doing.
It’s not cropped, it’s a different photo. 5 separate photographers are known to have captured the event, who each took multiple photos. Many of whom were on different floors of the same hotel. Jeff Widener of the Associated Press took one of the more famous telephoto shots from the 6th floor of the Beijing Hotel, while this wider one was probably taken by Stuart Franklin of Time, higher up in the same hotel.

Honestly I think the fame of the tank man has overshadowed other scenes of the incident and people often don’t realize just how bloody it was.
I remember seeing a picture of all the bicycles that were left over afterwards. A huge pile of abandoned bicycles because all the owners were murdered by their government.

Tankies will tell you that he was blocking the tanks from leaving so they had to turn around and kill a bunch of students instead. So he’s actually the villain.
