Because they aren’t currently committing a US backed genocide. This also works for a whole bunch of other countries because I’m not sure if this is in the US

You’re joking, right? That’s the point of boycotting, divesting, and sanctioning- to stop providing income to a nation. The US absolutely financially supports the Tibetan and Uyghur genocide through commerce, trade, and investments.

            There’s a huge difference here.

The US promotes lies about genocide in Tibet and Xinjiang to support hostile actions against China. There’s a reason BDS is illegal in most of the US, while disinvestment from China is encouraged by the government by banning various Chinese companies and in the form of the special 25% tariff on all Chinese goods, plus extra tariffs on things like solar panels, batteries, EVs, and medications.

Are you being serious right now? The sinicization of Tibet began in 1951. It was ruled a genocide over 60 years ago. It continues to this day.

Either you have an agenda, or you need to read more.

Before 1951, Tibet was a slave-based theocracy. Calling the change away from that system a genocide is like calling Reconstruction genocide.

Tibetans have autonomy and teach their language in schools. If you want to see what an ongoing cultural genocide looks like, look no further than Hawaii.

Back in the 50s, the US trained a bunch of the former ruling caste to stage a popular revolt, and then air-dropped them in Tibet with a bunch of guns. Turns out slavery isn’t very popular among the former slaves.

You sound just like the Republicans that say we shouldn’t support Ukraine because it’s a failed state. There’s no justification for genocide.

There’s no genocide. The Tibetan people still have their languages and cultures, and as a protected ethnic group, they have special political privileges and were exempt from the 1 child policy.

They were simply freed of the caste system and various other social injustices. The reason this is framed as a genocide to you is that the US (and the Lamas who fled) have a vested interest in restoring the old order.

The reason we shouldn’t support Ukraine is that every bomb we send is a bad day for someone, statistically mostly civilians. Neither you, nor the republicans give a shit about the people living in Ukraine; Democrats want to fight Russia to the last drop of Ukrainian blood, and Republicans don’t even think their lives are worth that much.

The US does only care about China’s genocides for selfish reasons, but the genocides themselves are not made up. The PRC is an empire, same as the US, same as the Soviet Union. There’s a reason countries like Vietnam ally with America over China. China is a regional bully that’s more of an immediate problem to them, despite all the terrible shit the US does. Just as Russia and the US have committed and continue to commit their own genocides, China plays the same imperial game.

Don’t defend empires just because another one sucks. I live in one of these empires and never plan to leave, but I’m not gonna deny the truth about it while I legally can. I’m an American more than I’m any other cultural group, but I know how evil and rotten it is. I’ll still live here and try my best within the empire while hoping people in China do the same.

China isn’t socialist in the slightest, but even when it was, it was still a nationalistic empire. They’ve become more reactionary and dangerous recently along with everywhere else on earth. They played ball with the neoliberal system and beat the west at its own game. However, that system inevitably bred fascism everywhere and destroyed itself, leaving the world powers primed for war.

The big picture is that all sides suck. Even if you want to support one for practical reasons, carrying their water when you don’t need to is pathetic. Be better.
