Western Sahara was a colony that was abandoned by Spain (e: abandoned just after Franco died, bc it would be very weird to be all about “democracy” while having a huge colony). Spanish socdems/new left often talk in support of it’s independence, but they never do anything about it. In fact, Spanish companies still fish near its shores and even steal the sand for artificial beaches (you can use machine translation) which is the only reason why there is light colored sand in Canary Islands.

Spain would never do anything about it because it would sour relations with Morocco, from where we get cheap fruit, for example.

Socdems definitely don’t talk about its independence, the president of Spain explicitly said be supports Morocco in this

The Sahwari people deserve self-determination, and have been occupied by Morocco. Western Sahara has the support of the African Union, and virtually every African country not in the Arab League, which supports Morocco for primarily religious reasons.

If the US and France happily offer and agree to certify your claim over a disputed territory in exchange for normalizing relations with Israel, then you are most likely not in the right. Israel also released a statement declaring their support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the region in 2023. Which should be another massive red flag.
