IMHO: Valve is phasing off the very initial gen. of Steam Deck to focus OLED/HDR (which would benefit Linux gaming ecosystem), as SteamDeck is certainly a standard defining device for Linux gaming ecosystem.
As a 1st gen steam deck user: I still love it and i totally buy the next generation. But right now… I dont really need it
I also had the first model. I was shocked that the slightly less weight of the OLED model would be the biggest difference for me.
The screen is very nice compared to the original model, but it was noticeably lighter and easier to hold for extended periods. That alone has helped justify the upgrade for me.
No joke, I’ve been looking to get a mini PC, and maybe a Steam Deck would suffice. It’s cheaper and comes with a screen and inputs.
They’ve been trying to phase out the 64 GB and 512 GB Steam Decks for a while now. Surprised they still have so many in stock.
Clearing out stock for a true 2.0 model likely.
Aaaand they’re gone.
I wish they’d price the higher capacity ones more appropriately. SSDs are cheap.
You can just change out the ssd yourself or use microsd. The higher cost ones have other benefits not only larger ssd.
I was thinking about grabbing one revently and was deciding between the OLED 512gb and 1tb. Is replacing the SSD is fairly easy?
Edit: I went and checked out the iFixit page for the replacement. It doesnt look difficult but I’d probably just get the 1tb model and be done with it.
