Jesus, I want to see the lemmy.ml post for this.
I don’t think I do want to see it. Those people can be creepy as fuck.
They are sharpening their sickles and hardning their hammers.
“How dare they take his luxurious private jet, he needs it to serve his people!”
I mean, if anyone needs a private plane, it’s the leader of a country. Shits too tense nowadays for any group to risk that
What do you guys think Airforce One is?
Legally purchased, for one.
I wasn’t aware Venezuela was subject to American law.
It’s fun to learn things, isn’t it?
It sure is, I hope you get the chance some day.
It’s only illegal because of the sanctions, which aren’t observed internationally.
And yet, here we are — with US law enforcement in possession of the plane.
“Might makes right” has been described as the credo of totalitarian regimes. source
So China could independently sanction America and seize Air Force One? Cool, cool. 😎
Was Air Force One illegally purchased in China and smuggled out?
If the U.S. was under sanctions at the time; yes.
?
If the U.S. can unilaterally sanction a country and seize a legally purchased asset and call it illegal, then another country could do that to the U.S.
Countries can do a lot of things. You’re discussing something that didn’t happen though.
According to the article, we sanctioned Venezuela, and they ignored those sanctions to purchase and smuggle a plane from the US.
The sanctions themselves are a separate discussion, but I think a reasonable person could expect some form of consequence. To be clear, I’m not defending the sanctions. I haven’t spent enough time reading about them to form an opinion.
