One thing that always blows my mind with east/west coast drivers in the US is how differently they use the horn. SoCal drivers are unhinged and it’s a terrifying place to drive, but no one ever honks unless absolutely necessary. You could probably get away with this much honking on the east coast, but on the west coast you’d get fucking shot. People are more considerate about not over honking than they are about straight piping their mufflers.
west coast is too passive about it in some places. i’ve pulled a turn and then seen a car in my mirror like 5 feet from my bumper, slamming its breaks. now i know i need to be more cautious around these low visibility intersections… but he didn’t even honk at me: how much unsafe shit am i pulling without knowing it because nobody ever tells me. honk at me, for god’s sake!
another issue here is the sheer number of people who drive with their lights off after dusk. because if i flash my lights at them to alert them of it, they don’t get it. because the tendency here is to interpret any form of communication as aggression instead of as communication 😐 which, i mean… “self-fulfilling prophecy” isn’t quite it but it’s not far from the mark.
I can’t imagine that. Everywhere I’ve ever lived, nobody beeps unless something egregious happens. Why beep just to make noise? That’s insanity and annoying to everyone around.
Not just to make noise, it’s mainly to wake people tf up at lights, or like the other poster said, to let them know theyre drifting outta the lane. And yes, some vengeance honks as well.
East Coast cities have people swerving into the other side of the road because they’re texting and driving, and unfortunately I don’t have a button on my car to tell them to put their phones down in English, only car!

Lol. I’m really not an aggressive driver, but honk like a motherfucker. It keeps traffic moving at Rush hour. East Coast cities be like 🤗📣
