Mindful and considerate, yes. But that doesn’t mean I put my entire day on hold for people that don’t get up until 10 or 11.
8am is pretty reasonable start to the day for me.
But I also believe that people bitching and saying no loud noises before 10am are being just as selfish as the people who get up and do yardwork at 6am. If someone has a problem or some extraordinary reasons for wanting it to stay quiet later, they can talk to each other and try to find a compromise.
And out of 7 days, if you are only being inconvenienced for a couple hours maybe that’s something you should be more tolerant of.
Hey 8 am Saturday leaf blower guy. Fuck you.
Cool. No loud parties after 9pm then? Or is inconveniencing my sleep okay because you do it at night?
I’ve got one day a week I can do yard work, and only until 9am until it hits over 90° out. Sorry, buddy. But you might have to deal with some noise. Wish we could all live in perfect harmony. But until then you have to deal with some shit you don’t like and I have to deal with some shit I don’t like and we’ll do our best to not inconvenience each other too bad.
You can’t do the yard work at 6pm instead? If your neighbors are having loud parties every week then yes you should talk to them and say it’s affecting your sleep, and if they don’t listen report them. My neighbors came over and said they would be playing music past 10pm and if that would be okay. Not being noisy when your neighbors might be asleep (even if it’s a big inconvenience) is just being considerate. If your neighbors are being noisy and you have no recourse then that’s a obviously different.
Also, get a sun hat and a handheld fan, take breaks, unless it’s a literal heatwave then you can manage (source: have done yard work at noon during a heat wave)
32c is nothing, and if the temps get high enough to stop work the plants are in survival stasis and you don’t need to do yard work
You can join the loud party and have fun I can’t join you cutting your own grass and I wouldn’t have fun anyway…
Lol as if cutting my lawn is fun. Or that I’d even want to join your party.
It’s hypocritical to think that your loud noise when Im trying to sleep is okay but my loud noise when you are trying to sleep isn’t.
But this is life living with other people that don’t sleep the same hours as you. Sometimes shit is going to inconvenience you, and I’ll do what I can to minimize it. But I’ve got shit I need to get done too and I’m just not going to not do it because it might suck for someone for an hour of their week.
Would you prefer to remain in bed covering your ears ? I’m not saying you shouldnt cut the grass I’m saying you could cut it later during the day … After 5 pm for example the sun isn’t hot anymore and you won’t wake the whole neighborhood up at 8 on a Sunday morning, probably the only day a standard worker could sleep in peace… Yes it sounds hypocritical but as I have said you can cut the grass in the afternoon but you can’t throw parties in the morning just because the night is intrinsic to parting … Everyone has shit to get done and this shouldnt be used as an excuse if we don’t ever stop to think about others we would never find a way to live together without fighting…
No loud parties. I promise. That would require friends.
Ahh fack off. It costs you nothing to wait until 10 to fire up noisemakers
And out of 7 days, if you are only being >inconvenienced for a couple hours maybe that’s >something you should be more tolerant of.
Out of 7 days these are the only two days most people can sleep past 8 and some people like sleeping. It is no different than consistently throwing late night parties during weekdays when most people have to wake up early the next day. There is a generally acceptable universal range which is no loud noises between 10pm to 9am. If you are the person who needs to make noise (such as the occasional party or repairs that need to start early etc) then it’s you who should go and tell/ask the neighbours about it, not the neighbours who should come and convince you to reduce noise.
6:30am “Vrrrrroooooooooooooomm!” for about a minute.
Silence for 45 seconds.
“Vrrrooooooooooooom!” for about a minute.
Repeat for the next 1 1/2 hours.
I thought it was just one particular idiot that lived near me
White noise machine, y’all. Makes life so much better. Sleep whenever you want.
LEAFBLOWER INTENSIFIES
Because a two-stroke engine that is more polluting than a full size SUV many times over making a lot of noise and releasing a lot of byproduct poisons into the air is vastly preferable to using a fucking rake.
downvotes? I’m guessing you may have offended some folks by badmouthing their favorite toy.
Back in CA, there was a total , appearance and all, that’d roll down the street in a golf cart with a massive sound system filling the entire rear behind his seat, and he’d blast out absolute trash dadrock with huge floor-shaking subwoofers, and do it all with this empty gammon grin behind his wrap-around polarized sunglasses, going back and forth at least twice a week around the same time.
He was still not as divorced as though.
Is your neighbour dual-wielding lawnmowers?
Don’t be ridiculous. He has a lawnmower in one hand and a chainsaw in the other.
Ash Williams moves to the suburbs
To be fair, doing my work around the house after worktime at 7PM weekdays is also not going to be very popular.
Having to raise tv-computer volume vs not being able to sleep. I know my choice
I’ll take 8pm vacuuming over 8am vacuuming any day
Depends on what time, for me
After about 10am is pretty fair game if a noisy job needs doing IMO. If it’s music and not obnoxiously loud, that’s probably fine too
Anyone making any noise before that though absolutely should get in the sea
10 am is way too late where I live. It’ll be >90 by then, and that’s a great way to get hear stroke. Most people in my neighborhood are out by 730 working.
Ahhhhhhhh country living is amazing. Not one neighbor.
My parents live in the country. They have one neighbor. He’s on meth so he likes to start chainsawing right around dark and continues until around 2am.
Just get him more meth. He’ll stop soon.
Yea well no neighbors is the only way to go.
Look, if you live somewhere that the sun makes you regret existence (read: everywhere in 10 years), yard work is getting done in the morning, car work is getting done in the evening.
I have neither a yard nor a car, what do I do on a Saturday
Drink
You don’t have any yardwork or car problems to deal with, so whatever the hell you want, I presume.
Except sleep without earplugs, I guess that’s out.
ride your bicycle to go get coffee and donuts for you and your car friends
Look how lucky you are. Mine desides 23:00 is the perfect time to start drilling.
Doing the lawn after dark seems so unwholesome. Which is annoying because I could use a 25° drop in temperature.
What about flying a kite in the dark?
And depending on the size of your lot, maybe you could use a reel mower. They’re nearly silent!
You could also use a scythe, but that sounds like a lot more work.
Meanwhile, my wife keeps asking if it would be rude to mow the lawn at 7AM on a Saturday. With the electric mower.
and you said yes, of course I can only hope.
Modern electric mowers are actually very quiet, they’re not your parents electric mower that’s for sure lol
Mine is so quiet not only do I not need to worry about ear protection, you can’t even hear it from inside my own house so def none of the neighbors will be able to hear it either lol
What lawn mower do you have that is that quiet??? I have a Ryobi electric push mower that I bought last year and while it’s way quieter than a gas mower I would feel incredibly rude using it early in the morning.
And noise is different depending on time of day. Ambient noise is a lot lower in off-hours, so your mower would sound louder than it does during the day.
I have a greenworks push mower and I can clearly hear the birds while I’m mowing.
It’s not the most powerful thing, but it does the job really quietly.
Ours merely hums, wouldn’t think the noise would make it through a window unless you were within 10’, and even then, that might not wake a sleeping neighbor.
The electric weed eater OTOH. Yeah. No.
(DeWalt BTW. 40V I think? 2 small batteries.)
I was riding up the street on my bicycle the other day and actually stopped and backtracked to ask my neighbor what kind of mower he was using because I was so impressed at how quiet it was. Turns out it was a Ryobi (one of their brushless 40V models, which might matter).
Based on the design I think this is the one I have: https://www.ryobitools.com/products/details/46396037169#
It does say “brushless” but they’ve got a fair few different varieties. I don’t know, I mean like I said it is significantly quieter than a gas mower. It’s a good mower. But I don’t think it’s anywhere near quiet enough to consider using it during off hours.
Kind of needs more context. 11 am is morning.
There’s no time of day I should be able to hear your music in my own home with all doors and windows closed.
Getting car or house work done tho? I’m cool.
I can hear people have a normal conversation on the street from inside my house. The walls are thin enough to let in and out all sound, but thick enough to keep in the heat in winter.
I added a bunch of insulation to my attic and that quieted things down. I think a lot of the sound was coming in the soffit vents and then through the ceiling of the room instead of the walls themselves.
I live in a really mild climate and like to keep my windows open all the time. But fuck, I hate the vroom vrooms racing all day and night, and hearing people walking around with bluetooth boomboxes… like, when did that become a thing? headphones and jam friend, jeeeeeze… they don’t even sound good.
I don’t mind the music, but I do mind domestic disputes. The house beside mine is a rental and all of the tenants that have been there since I’ve moved in have been the worst. Trashy and constant domestic disputes and leaving their kids and dogs to just roam. I think the latest people got evicted because I haven’t seen them or their dog for a really long time. It’s been nice and quiet since they disappeared and I love it lol.
I swear my upstairs neighbors have bowling balls where other people have feet.
It’s ARTISTRY!
I’ve never seen a video THIS relatable.
Ive often contemplated replacing the muffler on my rider with one designed for a passenger car
