So, before beginning my 4 months of parental leave in June, I wrote an article for @heiseonline describing, why one on #Threads should activate federation with the #Fediverse. I did this in anticipation, that this option would become availabla in the EU while I’m gone.
After almost two months, it’s still not here. Seems like preparing the article wasn’t necessary. Will it come before christmas maybe? 🙄
They said ‘full federation by the end of 2024’ but who the hell am I kidding, we can’t trust a thing they say…🤦♂️
We can only wait and see.
@mho @heiseonline @fediverse
This is what I keep saying when people get distraught over it here. They keep talking about it, but so far, all we’ve seen is a handful of accounts that we can follow one-way. We don’t know how much they’ll actually do here.i am very heavily on the stance of threads doing an EEE, and mabye indirectly forcing other companies with good intentions to leave.
Honestly at this point threads federation probably won’t even be able to get the first 2 E’s because it’s opt-in on the Threads side. Most Threads users don’t know what ActivityPub is and aren’t going to go digging through settings to turn it on. Aside from the POTUS Threads account I legitimately haven’t found a threads account I’d remotely care about that bothered to turn it on, even among some of the more tech-oriented ones
I really hope the EU rips each of these corpos a new one. This idea of „we get more functionality than others do so users come to us“ is disgusting with any company but corpos should be legally kept from doing it.
