Yeah, but if you rename Greenland to Epstien Island, suddenly the US has never been there, is uninterested in it, and doesn’t have any knowledge of it. On the other hand they might just react it entirely.

That isn’t Mercator, then the longitude lines would be parallel and not converge at the pole like that. Greenland really is massive, even without the Mercator distortion.

I’m betting that part of trump’s fascination with Greenland is because of the mercator projection.
While possibly true, the fascination is Putin’s, he’s just following orders. Putin has wanted Venezuela and greenland for a long time.
