Who the fuck still uses Twitter?

This is like a press release about a random gopher farting in the woods in Prague - this “news” is mildly relevant to a total of 7 people in the entire universe.

Reality is much less people than previous. Careful of the metrics you’re looking at when they originate with elon - he’s notorious for creative accounting with the equivalent of counting a Twitter “impression” as anyone who typed a “t” into their search bar.

I agree it’s down a large amount but it started at a really high level. Tens of millions to go before we get to ask “Who on earth still uses Twitter?”

Maybe calling a hero cave diver a pedo wasn’t a great idea, Elon

Anyone here that still uses twitter - why do it when there are alternatives? If they continue losing users, all your favorite sources of entertainment and such will just move to different platforms too! It’s a win win.

I exclusively use it because content creators I follow are stubborn and won’t leave the platform. I regret every time I’m forced to open it because it’s mostly spam now, but they won’t go elsewhere

Yeah I get that, but the primary one that I use it for has stated that he doesn’t want to have to learn a new platform and that if his Twitter ever died he’s not going to learn another platform. I would rather have updates on a shitty platform then no updates at all. Of course that’s also under the assumption that everybody left the platform as well because me alone leaving wouldn’t do anything

I understand your apprehension, sometimes the stubborn folks need to actually feel the pain before they realize they actually will give a little… Hopefully your community can move the person to shift

They use it because the general public don’t care what Elon/X is doing, They just want to see posts and they can still do that.

They increasingly can’t view those posts though.

And I’d argue that the general public actually does care, you can see this reflected in places like all EV sales rising EXCEPT for tesla, Twitter losing half of its advertising revenue (a reflection of elon/Twitter being toxic to their sales goals and the platform rapidly losing eyeballs) and of course basic meme culture. The public care enough to laugh at and reject him.

So actually a lot of reality in clear opposition of your unsupported opinion there…

I used #Twitter to get information from a variety of sources using #Quacker, all the way until they decided to basically prevent non-registered users to browse the website. Now you literally have to login to access the tweets, or see any comments, which is ludicrous. It’s not that generic public forum it used to be any longer and I don’t understand how they are expecting to get any meaningful ad revenue there.

#Mastodon is gazillion times better, has a normal community, albeit with a smaller user base, but that is probably a plus, since you don’t get so many weirdos.

I really thought they got rid of that future, you know after the absolute dumpster fire it’s launch was, like it doesn’t look good when your launch stream is buggy and barely runs

Alternatively: Twitter announces end of livestreaming feature - gives up to Twitch and YouTube.

Well, that’s good. The less features the site has the better. Here’s to hoping they’ll fade to obscurity!

This seems like a distopia where only rich people can control the video streams that people watch.

    Thankfully X isn’t a monopoly
