    As far as I know, this hasn’t been mentioned, but I hope it launches for PC day 1. I’ve played DS1 through twice on steam deck. That said, DS2 may require an upgrade.

      Not everyone remember that the actual first Metal Gear was a microcomputer (PC before it was cool to call that) exclusive… on the MSX2

      I mean… was that game actually good? Because I got excited for it and then watched a few parts of play throughs where you’re just like carrying a bunch of boxes over hills n shit and sometimes they’d fall off and it seemed like not that fun.

        It rapidly became one of my favorite single player games of all time after I bought it in late 2020. However, it is fundamentally a hiking simulator with a light sprinkling of open world stealth/action/horror gameplay and some innovative passive online multiplayer mechanics.

        So, it might just not be your cup of tea. Especially if you don’t like simulation / management games such as fight simulator 2020, FTL, etc. However, if you enjoy meditative or atmospheric games, such as dear ester, fallout 3, valheim, Firewatch, maybe give it a shot when it’s on sale. The world building is fantastic, and the vibes are sublime.

        For some of us. Yes the game is incredible. The detail to menus, maps, management and playing control is very very good. Now I won’t try and change any minds. The game is very “slow” and isolating but it’s an entirely different mood than most games. It’s like the film 2001. It can be a slow methodical well crafted movie but maybe not as exciting as say Star Wars. Kojima games always seem to take 10-20+ hours to “get momentum” but I’ve always enjoyed them.

    This article is so confusing. Pretty sure Kojima productions always owned the game/ip. Sony was first to publish then 505 for PC versions. I very much doubt they handed any IP over to Sony or 505 games except to publish on platforms most likely they had a clause they couldn’t do anything with the IP to interfere with the publisher sales like a movie, etc. The contract for 505/Sony to death standing most likely expired and now Kojima has other options for what to do with the series. This might be splitting hairs but I think it important to point out Kojima is not going to give any creative IPs away ever again to shitty companies that want to bastardize his ideas.

      It’s unclear.

      Considering it was the first project from Kojima Productions (the independent studio he started after Konami) it’s actually probable that they didn’t own the IP.

      They would have needed someone like Sony and 505 to foot the bill of developing their first project, with no incoming cashflow, and those deals usually leave the publisher holding the IP.

      Whats really confusing me, is that it wasn’t Sony holding the IP rights, it was 505.

      It looks like maybe 505 was holding it all, giving Sony a cut of the pie for the timed console exclusive, and now sold it all back to Kojima, allowing them to do the Xbox release.

      I for one am really happy that studios are wising up and buying the rights to their own stuff when its successful enough to enable them to do that, instead of letting their IP be owned by the publishers in exchange for having them bankroll development.

      Studios like Kojimas and Remedy have been shopping around with multiple publishers, and owning their own IP, means they can now even more easily drop a publisher for another, if they try to sacrifice quality.

        Yah I think you are right. More articles that suggest Kojima just had a 5 year deal with Sony. I could see them negotiating IP rights if sales aren’t met or something else. Just glad they own it. Must feel good. “On November 9, 2024, the five-year anniversary of the game’s launch on PlayStation 4, Kojima Productions announced that they had re-acquired the intellectual property (IP) rights to Death Stranding from Sony Interactive Entertainment, and that they had planned to bring the game to additional platforms, coinciding with the immediate launch of Director’s Cut on the Microsoft Store for Windows, Xbox Series X/S consoles, and the Amazon Luna cloud gaming service.”
