  • If you can swing the training, even at the CNA or EMT level, there is healthcare. Purposeful work. Knowledge that helps your daily, and is never entirely useless. If nothing else it will save you from spurious trips to the urgent care or emergency room, or tell you when to use the urgent care instead of the emergency room, and save you money there. Even before ACA there were shortages. There’s potential here for fallout as with everything else, but if hospitals can retain nonprofit status I don’t see much changing in terms of need.

For now anyway, until nonprofit status/benefits get yanked, hospitals pay part of education upgrades. They typically offer better health insurance too, if you stay in their corporate system and don’t have kids.

I’m sure there’s other purposeful professions that don’t have an impossible buyin.

I usually recommend trades. Building something with your hands, again with a skill set that carries over into your household, has purpose. But with immigration policy, a sizeable piece of the grunt work force may be kicked out, so I’m not sure what will happen there but I suspect house building will slow down.

  • Facebook messenger. Every keystroke is recorded. Go ahead, as for your data from Facebook. Every keystroke is logged.

Facebook Messenger is the worst way to be communicating right now.

Now is the time to migrate yourself and your people to WIRE or Signal. Your messenger people will likely only move once, if ever.

One way to encourage this is by simply refusing to be available by text on anything but WIRE or Signal. They will eventually give in and use it. You can still FaceTime, and for free, via Signal or WIRE.

  • Trump isn’t the direct problem, RFK is. RFK is batshit and somehow still managed to receive up to 15k votes in some states. And then trumps lazy potato ass throws RFK a job favor not caring how it plays out since RFK won’t be touching his health.

Flu is a uniquely adaptive virus. It’s why we don’t have a universal vaccine, and why King picked it as his death virus in The Stand. That said, like with H1N1, they can batch those vaccines out rather quickly.

Extra info regarding general yearly flu shots: There are a lot of flus. If two different flus meet in the night a third type of flu will be born. So each year, science runs the odds and picks the 3 most likely flus and puts them into that year’s flu vaccine. They’re pretty good at getting it right. Even when they’re 100% correct, flu #4, #5, or #6 can still get through. The biggest misconception is thinking “the” flu or “the” flu shot references a single virus is it’s entirety.

As with most things human, it’s a probability game.

H5N1 vaccine can be produced and handed out rather quickly, as they were with H1N1.

  • There is nothing wrong with responsible gun ownership. A handgun was specifically created to be easily carried.

I’m fond of the Walther PDP, but you do you.

Always research state and local laws first. This includes what could happen to you should you use it in your house vs not in your house and so on.

  • This is real.

It affects more than that. A friend of mine works for a small business, with immigrants. One does have a criminal conviction in his past, 50s, left gang life 2 decades ago to clean up his act and be there for his children. Likely gone after the orange potato is sworn in.

After analyzing the 20% increase to component costs due to tariffs and possibly having her work visa staff expelled, she told my friend to get a side job, because she wasn’t sure what was going to happen. That was last week.

This week I get a furious wall of text about imminent job loss because ALL orders from this small Business were put on hold “to wait and see”. There is a paycheck to paycheck factor with small businesses pushing to get ahead. They also lost production, materials, and savings when meth heads broke into the business, stole, and started a fire. Insurance, yes, but it still cut in. So cushion is gone.

So this week, it’s I can’t pay anyone if I have no orders for the next 2 months, so find a new job, I’m filing bankruptcy at the end of the month.

Immigration IS one piece of this puzzle. And now, people are losing their jobs, one small business is going bankrupt, and the orange potato isn’t even sworn in yet. All the ripple effect of anticipation.

Also, this business owner is Conservative. Not MAGA, there’s a difference. Fiscal conservative type, voted Kamala because it was in favor of her business. Tariffs and immigration were all the talk, I’m told, pre election.

Food production business btw. No farm fields, indoor production.

Normally I like collecting stories, but in less than a week it’s been pretty depressing fare.

Ah ah ah, Trump says he’s going after anyone on social media labeling things as misinformation or disinformation, those words are to be banned from social media platforms or face the wrath of the DOJ.

Per the 1A speech with the giant all caps green crayon subtitles.

There’s a lot to unpack in it and it’s less than 10min. Hatch Act. He says he’s going to use the DOJ on anyone trying to enforce it.
