Sorry, not everyone who considers the party or their leader to be weak is a racist asshole. Singh has never been a strong leader. Trustworthy, definitely; and most likely a good guy. Policy-wise I agree with him and the NDP more than any other party (actually, the Greens under May but that ship has sunk), and he has been quite effective at forcing some good out of the past-their-due-date Liberals; but in all honesty, he has never had the strength of presence like Trudeau or Layton.
I’ll likely be voting for them in the next election (not that it matters in fucking CPC-washed Alberta), but I’ve always wished he were a stronger leader.
Yeah, I can’t say I’m surprised that a Nazi would dislike Trudeau.
Oh that’s easy. They’ll be destroyed by a party that can’t lose an election.
The UCP just introduced the most extreme anti-trans legislation in North America. They have been methodically and relentlessly destroying public healthcare, and handing private contracts to their friends. Education has been revamped with a curriculum that explicitly promotes oil and gas production, denies the harm of residential schools, and encourages rote memorization over comprehension. Oh yes, and public charter schools. They’ve recently started to make inroads on ultimately banning abortion.
And they’ll get reelected, over and over again.
Nope.
This is going to shift Canadian politics to the right, and embolden the fascists. This just significantly increased Poilievre’s chances of winning.
In a word…
FUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!
How are you going to stop a fascist CPC from coming to power?
Followong a user.
Yes.
Yes it is.
This is the most aggressively anti-trans bill enacted in Canada. It is a desparate attemot to keep David Parker from trying to get her ousted, in favour of someone even more extreme,
Because it works.
He may be delusional to the point of actually believing some of his bullshit, but he still (correctly) knows that lying works - and for the people who follow him, it works better than honesty or considerate thought.
Honestly, these policies are 100% successful, if you consider their goal.
Forced treatment isn’t intended to help people get clean. Nor is it intended to even keep them off the street.
The goal of forced treatment is to PUNISH people for using drugs. It is intended to hurt them, and drive them farther from a support network.
And at this, it is incredibly good.
Could actually be MCA - Make Canada America.
I’m with you on this, but don’t forget that most polling companies are run by conservative sympathizers. Angus Reid was reposting anti-Trudeau posts on twitter only a week ago. Quito Maggi, head of Mainstreet Research, was actively trying to sabotage Naheed Nenshi’s re-election campaign a few years ago.
And the media…well, pretty much all of the print media is owned by Postmedia which in turn is owned by a MAGA-loving US hedge fund.
Don’t despair - fight.
My thought process:
"Hah! The Beaverton really went beyond silly this time.
Oh, fuck…"
Apple is worth THREE AND A HALF TRILLION DOLLARS!!!
Say that again. Three and a half trillion dollars.
They have cash-on-hand reserves of in excess of $60bn. They could give every single employee $200,000 and still have half of it in the bank.
Tim Cook is a relative pauper in the CEO game, with a net worth upwards of two billion. He could personally pay a team of a three thousand reporters with full benefits and remain a billionaire.
It’s not people refusing to pay for journalism, it’s robber barons refusing to pay journalists.
People always have.
How many people get paid to go to ham radio clubs, to write up plans for model airplanes, or to share telescope mirror polishing techniques? How many people try to profit off of community seed/plant exchanges?
The only difference is that people are now looking for venues to generate profit by producing content, rather than producing content for its own sake. The concept of “every sharing of information must be financially profitable” is a sickness - a festering disease.
Domain names cost about $50/year. Self-hosting can be done for free with most ISPs; and if you’re getting enough traffic that you need to pay for hosting, it starts pretty cheaply.
Profit is destroying community at every turn. Resist the relentless lust to make an extra buck, and ENGAGE with people.
No, you really really really don’t.
I’m old enough to have been online when commercial content was illegal, and I’ve watched as aggressive commerce has crept into every single corner of the internet.
You don’t need to have ads to support a website, you need ads to profit from a website. The idea that everything - information, news, community, society - not only CAN be monetized but MUST be monetized is relatively new, destructive, and anti-human.
The mere idea that you have to choose between two ways of throwing money at billionaires is a symptom of the terminal stages of capitalism. We’re going to have a rough 50 years or so, but this has to end.
Not really an import, this ha been the direction right-wing politics has been shifting since Harper. (And he’s still pulling Poilievre’s puppet strings.)
