Everyone has mentioned the drive for profit, I just want to give another example that’s more explicit:

• Revenue comes from advertising
• More ad views/engagement means more revenue
• This drives the company to create algorithms to increase engagement. For instance promoting rage bait so you stay on the site longer. This leads to other scummy things like racist or sexual content as well
• This drives the original community to fall apart as people are driven away (see enshittification)

I’m reading the new translation. I can’t really speak to the quality but I like the style. One tricky thing is it’s structured a little differently than the other editions. There is a chart comparing the various English editions in an appendix…I will post it when I get a chance.

I feel like they did the same thing with Obama. It’s a lazy attack but I think they are trying to reinforce that they aren’t “American” (read, “white”) by attaching them to scary foreign looking political symbols.
