It’s insane how many stupid little problems there are with it. Especially on functionality that has existed for years/decades. It’s like they just change shit for the sake of changing it and then the changes aren’t tested properly to make sure they work. Absolutely ridiculous coming from such a massive company. It’s clear they give zero fucks about the user experience.
Last time I did install work we used double sided Velcro for cable management. I snagged a roll and made a jig to split it in half with a box knife to get twice as much and I’ve still got a ton left over a decade later. It’s really handy stuff to have around and better than zip ties in most applications I use it for.
So oddly enough when I went to get the specs on the laptop I had it on and installed it just for funsies while I was at it and it seems to be working better now… At least in the 10 minutes or so I played around with it. Not sure what the problem was before, maybe some update was made since then or something. Gonna mess with it more this weekend.
I’ve installed it via Flatpak and using the appimage, both were the same. I also tried the appimage on my windows desktop and had the exact same performance.
Well, first I install it. Then I launch it. Then I try to do literally anything with it and it takes like 90 seconds to actually respond to every command. I do have a Raspberry pi around somewhere. Maybe I’ll try that.
I always assumed the “can’t find the clitoris” jokes we’re based in men ignoring the clitoris. Not that they literally could not find it. It’s like right there.
FreeCAD certainly looks like it does most of the CAD stuff I need but I have yet to get it to run well enough to be usable on any of the 3 systems I’ve tried it on (hardware that runs fusion fine). I don’t know what people are doing to make it work but I can’t figure it out.
Growing up I wanted to be a mechanic. After I went to tech school and got into the field I learned how much of it was pushing shit on people even when it can wait or they can’t afford it. I got bitched at by my boss for trying to help someone prioritize what they actually needed vs “recommended services” on more than one occasion. I tried switching shops a few times but it was always the same thing so I completely lost my passion for it. I just work on my own car now.
Gonna have to wait a bit for those bitcoins.
At least I can still pay with the money I keep in my underpants.

Yea, theres a big overgrown patch behind the house and we have them all over. It’s nice to see. I like to sit out and watch them while the sun goes down. It’s relaxing. Theres a bunch of other critters that come out around that time to so it’s interesting. I watched a couple of raccoons take apart my neighbors bird feeder last night.
Another bug I haven’t seen in forever is grasshoppers. I used to catch buckets of those things when I was a kid and I don’t think I’ve seen more than a couple in years.
I think this was the game I rented once as a kid and never saw again but pops up as a memory every so often and I could never remember the name… Gonna check it out again.
I can let that one slide if it’s on their car. They could be just trying to get out of tickets.

Had this happen recently. Turned out to be a stick that was wedged up into the hub and rubbing on the wheel. But then in the process of removing the stick I found that the wheel was fused to the brake drum and no amount of kicking or banging on it with a sledge would knock it loose. Waiting for a dry weekend to take a more aggressive approach to dealing with that problem…
My understanding is fusion360 only does some things in the cloud. It still runs locally. Otherwise they could have a web app I could use on my Linux desktop and not worry about it. I was using them side by side on two separate workstations (the one with FreeCAD actually has higher specs) and I wasn’t really trying to compare performance but when it’s that glaring of a difference it can’t just come down to hardware and like I said it wasn’t just “slower” it was completely unusuable. I tried FreeCAD on the system I use Fusion360 on as well with similar results to everything else I’ve tried it on.
What are you running FreeCAD on? I have tried it on 4-5 different systems and it has ran like shit on all of them. Like I don’t expect it to be perfect but it took 30-90 seconds to even respond when I try to do something. That’s completely unusable. I finished an entire (fairly simple) design I was working on in Fusion360 before I could even get 2 rectangles sketched out in FreeCad. I’d love to get it working because it’s one of my bigger hangups getting rid of windows.
The one I go to does this. One line and they call out which lane is opening next for you to go to. The long line is arranged perpendicular to the registers and It really doesn’t seem to take up that much more space compared to stores that don’t do that.
