I was right there as well. I saw creators I trust putting out stuff talking about the state of social media today (Technology Connections on YouTube in particular) and that was around when I started diving back into bluesky, then after a little more reading around, mastodon and lemmy. Never looked back after that.

The fake album game is more of an algorithm to get a fake album through chance (the final product matters much more than the method imo), but it could be helpful for those who don’t know where to begin.
My actual preference is only that the final post show effort. I honestly wouldn’t mind if the base picture wasn’t OC, or even the uploaded picture, if the name of the artist/album and other information (possibly a tracklist or genre, like you mentioned) come together to evoke the unique vibe that album art often has. I didn’t want to write all that out, but some change will be necessary to how the rules are written at the moment.
I’ll probably go back and add something like that for what I’ve posted so far, but in the meantime, do mention what genres you think they might be. It would be quite interesting to see how different people interpret it.
I think decades of minimalist, ‘intuitive’ interfaces that abstract what’s going on in the background have made us too lazy to go beyond the bare minimum to switch platforms in general.
A common criticism I saw of the fediverse was the fact that you have to decide on an instance. As if any significant part of your life doesn’t require a certain amount of research before making a decision. We all just buy the car that the dealership tells us to buy, of course.
Same with movies, like how the Venom movies have higher Rotten Tomatoes scores with each installment, despite getting worse as they went along.
Tbf, there is often a proportional reward (multiple seasons of good TV being quite a bit longer than the movies that get good).
Also, with how pacing, budgets and casts work in the industry, a movie often ends up having more in terms of emotional investment and new information than an equivalent length of TV. So the effort to watch a movie is not the same as watching an hour and a half of TV (on average).
